CAS-Norinco mod 97

I have a chance to buy a Norinco mod 97 and I was wondering if they stand up to cowboy shooting( I am just starting out). I already bought a Stoeger Coach gun at a great price ( $425 new in the box with interchaneable chokes) but would like to try the mod 97. Also are parts interchangable between the Norinco and Win?

I've had one for about 3 years but don't use it a lot since I have 4 other Win 97's. There are a couple others that I know who use their norc's regularly with no problems. From what I can see parts should be interchangeable.

While I haven't used one myself I have noticed quit a few being used at matches and haven't heard any real serious complaining, in fact probably hear more praise than complaints. The most common being "for the money I've got in it ,it works good" and that could mean any number things.

As for parts being interchaingable I wouldn't count on it to much. Even originals don't iterchange some parts from model to model ( there is at least five different models of the 97).

If it's "as new" and $275 or $300 it is probably a good deal. Much more than that and you can pick up a decent original ( it won't be as new and will be well broke in but will function ok for that kind of money).

Norinco 07's

FYI: Norinco 97's are metric threaded, while the original Winchesters are imperial threads. So any part that has threads will NOT interchange with the other make.

As far as working and lasting, all Norinco's are solid frames and will stand up well since most Winchesters are take downs with interrupted threads on barrel and receiver mating. Have several shooters who use them in our club, some shooting for more than 4 years and all work fine as long as you take care of them.

The wood on them, well ? As one shooters said, he would bet they took the old shipping pallets from the China docks and make gun stocks out of them. LOL
