CAS question,,

most courses of fire require 2 revolvers. stages usually combine HG's, SG's and rifle targets.

I am thinking of getting a Norinco 1897-style shotgun. Is the M-97 legal for use in CAS? Can I just take the heat shield off?

What about number of shots?
We're looking at a coach gun. 2 shots before reload. M 97.....?
You are only allowed to load/fire two shells at a time in any shotgun - which supposedly levels the playing field. If considering a double barrel, be sure that it isn't of the "automatic ejector" type - i.e. that throws the empty hulls clear when you break it open - as those are not allowed.

I have an original Model 1897 and a Norinco repro, but just haven't been able to get comfortable/proficient with them, so I still use a double - in my case, because of the category I shoot in, I use an external-hammers double (Rossi coach gun.)

If you can only manage one revolver to start with, you'll likely find you can borrow a second handgun in your caliber from another shooter - provided they have reasonable confidence in your ability to handle it carefully, and you aren't shooting "big bang" loads .... If you only have one holster you can likely also borrow a second one of those, too ... or many clubs will allow the second pistol to be staged, and returned to that position after you have fired it.
