Between six guys. We have 4 18"rounds steel targets approx 4' high, 1 10" square steel target ground level we also have 12" round at about 3' high. What would be a good cheap target we could use for shotgun until we can get a good one made? We would like to design a couple stages until we can get the rest, we'd like to play in the meantime.R:d:

We have what or lack of a better term is called a "bell." Chunk of oilfield casing. The internally threaded end cut off with a cross bar welded across the top. Middle of the cross bar is a large nut welded to that. A steel post is driven into the ground and the bell hung atop of it. It's best to drive the post into the ground with the bell held on top or the tip gets mushroomed and won't fit anymore. They make a dandy sound.

Shotgun targets really need some way to fall to show they've been hit with enough of the pellets to justify it as a solid and decently accurate hit. For the time being leaning round or square shapes up against a low wooden foot in behind should allow you to get in some meaningful practice. The trick would be to hit them and knock them over. So aim to the higher half so it kicks back over the foot that is holding it up. Another option if you've got a welder would be to just weld a little foot on the base so they stand on their own but a well aimed blast is enough to knock them down.

Golden bb

Hey BCRIDER,

Aint you never herd of the C.A.S. GOLDEN BB ?
If a shotgun is not a knock down then a hit is a hit even if it is only that one golden BB in each hull I know is there.

Knock down shotgun targets are more work to reset each time but they sure are a better way of ending a discussion on the firing line.
