is it illegal in US laws to ship riflescopes to Canada, whether commercially or privately?

I know some companies will not ship them, what about if I buy it from an individual or have a friend send it to me?

Would appreciate any advice.

It is illegal on the US side of things. Unless the person has an export license for the scope, it is illegal. This has been hashed out many times on CGN.

If the sender were to decide to risk it and get caught, I believe it is a very hefty fine with the possibility of jail time.

4scopes.com has no problems shipping them across the border to Canadians.

As for breaking the law it about as dumb as some of our laws: Its illegal in Canada to

Pay for a fifty-cent item with only pennies.

Citizens may not publicly remove bandages

It is illegal to pretend to practice witchcraft

It's not illegal to ship scopes, they just have to do the paperwork. If they are doing it without the permits, they will get burned some day, and the fines will likely put them out of business.
