case coloring a 1911

I have to agree that such a thing would be absolutely amazing. I wonder why it's not an option from any makers that I know of?

You sure won't be the first one though. A google image search for "color case 1911" turns up a bevy of beauties. And they DO look as amazing as I imagined.

Its not the easiest thing to do. You risk warping parts if not quenched properly. And getting good coloring is tough.

Is a norinco 1911a1 frame able to be case colored? I know it would cost more than the actual gun. Has anyone done it

I think the amount you shoot the gun is important. If you shoot the gun a lot, particularly IPSC style shooting, I think the colour would wear away with time. If it is only a gun you shoot occasionally the colours would last a long time

I'd try to get Oscar to do it if willing. I've seen images with even the slide case colored but I think I'd just do the frame. I must admit I'm not a big pistol shooter but I love the 1911 in 45. I'm just waiting for my rpal to arrive then ill buy a few.

That blue halo in no way compares to real case coloring. Bone and charcoal gives vibrant irredescent colors and if done right doesn't weaken the metal as it's only a thin layer molecularally changed

I agree. It's a poor and weak imitation.

It's not that true CCH weakens the metal. Quite the opposite in fact. That's the whole point of case hardening.

But what might happen is that the heat used and sudden shrinking from the dunk from bright cherry red into a tank of cool water will warp the parts. That part is a valid risk.

The Norinco frame is easy to colour case harden. Of all the 1911 clones on the market, it has the best steel.
I did every make available and never had a problem with warping.

Exactly what I was thinking when I was holding a Uberti 1873 in 357 mag. I didn't buy it. I'll wait for a 22 Lr version instead. Truth be told I'm more of a shotgun and rifle guy but I have quite a few friends that want to shoot a handgun. Enough that I don't want to keep bothering my buddies by letting ppl they don't know use theirs. I'm sending my restricted papers today
