I recently acquired a Pedersoli Frontier flintlock rifle. It is a beautiful rifle, but it is too long to fit in any standard gun case that I know of. In fact, it is even too tall to fit in my gun safe.

Can anyone make suggestions about a suitable gun case (soft or hard), other than getting a custom case made.

Thanks in advance.

Check out Cabela's. Bought the case for my Caywood longrifle there. Case is aluminum, very sturdy. Plenty long enough for your Pedersoli. Worth a look.

I have home made long gun sleeves made out of leather and out of blanket material. They are a lot more convenient than the rigid plastic or aluminum cases. The plastic ones are made for long rifles but I don't know how you would locate one

If you want a hard case try making one with thin plywood, finishing nails and glue. Pretty easy to do with hand tools and fits the gun perfectly. Doesn't weigh a ton either if you don't go overboard with the materials.

Making your own gun case, as already suggested, is always a good idea. But, should you decide to travel anywhere with your longrifle....particularly by air....then you will need a sturdy, lockable case for it. The one I use, purchased from Cabela's, is part of the
"Bullet Proof" line of gun cases. I believe these are made for Cabela's by KK-Air. The one I have sure looks like a KK-Air case I already own. If so, these cases are strong, durable and lock very securely. Cabela's Customer Service may be of help in purchasing one of these cases, should you decide to go that way. If not, simply make one.

Soft gun cases or slips for long rifles can easily be made from Thrift store or garage sale blankets. Highlights/ end caps with deerskin makes them more interesting. You can make them as simple or as fancy as you want.

Check out The Log Cabin Shop , <logcabinshop.com> They are the only source of padded 62" cases that I have found. Several years ago there were other sources but not recently. The last time I bought one it was about $40 USD, shipping included.

try making one out of ABS pipe. cheap and really strong. all you need is length of pipe end cap screw on cap for easy removal. used to make my fishing rod cases from this as well as my pool cue cases.

Sounds like an idea. You can put it in a gun sock first to protect it. Cabelas has gun socks/sleeves that are made for long muzzleloaders.
