Hello,

I am back to reloading and have a question: do you guys check every cartridge with the case gage?

I will shoot Ipsc with 9 mm and will probably shoot 1500-2000 rounds per month, that's a lot a manipulation.... Is there safety issue not doing it?

Thanks

i don't, just make sure it chambers well and works well in the gun you want to shoot it in. from there i will measure maybe every 100th case to make sure nothing has moved around with my dies.

you'll be fine without one, many are.

I run them all through a Lee Factory Crimp Die.

^^^This.

If you don't want any issues run them through the Lee FCD die.
You don't need to crimp them but simply passing them through the die with the carbide sizing ring will ensure that they will chamber.

I have had my HK P30-L for 1-1/2 years and in that time have shot several thousand rounds through it.
I've never had a failure to feed with that gun except for the one time a friend gave me a few of his reloads to try while standing next to me at the range.
I loaded the mag and dropped the slide and sure enough it wouldn't chamber the round which was badly Glocked.

It goes to show you not to shoot other people's reloads

I will check using my Dillon gauge say 5 out of a 100. After few thousand rounds not one issue with my 2 Shadows.

Remove your gun barrel and chamber a round to see how she fits. I like to start the process where the OAL is such that the bullet just gets stuck in the lands and I have to pry it out. Then I shorten it gradually until I can press it in hard and it drops out by itself once I tip the barrel up. Measure this length. Then try at least 10 more, fitting and measuring. I usually take the shortest and subtract another 10 to 20 thousandths for additional safety margin. Then you can put away your barrel and occasionally check your OAL instead. Keep in mind that some barrels have chambers shorter than others (CZs come to mind!), so choose your pickiest gun barrel for the test.

The most common cause of bad fit in 9mm causing failure to chamber is OAL too long. I shoot 9mm IPSC with .358" lead bullets, and have never had a failure to chamber due to case or bullet diameter. And a Lee FCD will not solve OAL problems. Proper adjustment of your bullet seating die using your gun barrel and later checking occasionally with calipers is necessary.

Thanks for all answer.

I do use a Xl650 with dillon dies and a bullet feeder. Even with a proper crimp, some cartridge didn't go through the case gauge?

I do use Berry's bullet 124gr right now. I will see if I do change for the lee FCD.

When I have to drive 1200km one way to shoot a match... YES!
'Nothing worse than travelling so far only to crap a stage because of a jam that could have easily been avoided...
