Case Length Dimensions?

Case length Dimension for the 340 Wby is 2.825" (Max)

I ordered a Lee case length gauge (special order) and I asked for it to be 2.810", but it measures and cuts the brass only to 2.820", is this still going to be safe when using 250g bullets?

I'm wondering if I file down the pin on the end just enough, that I have enough room on the inner dimensions of the shaft to accomplish a trim length of 2.815" or 2.810"
Or should I trim the threaded side (no not the threads themselves) the shaft that is on a lath?

Any ideas?

I also ordered a 308Win case length gauge and they send me one for a 300 Savage, that's no good to me.:(

According to my Lyman book, the 'trim to' length is 2.815", not 2.810". Resize the cases and measure them with a vernier. That'd be more accurate than a guage. A case trimmed to 2.820" should be fine with a 250 grain bullet though. Remember to chamfer and deburr the case mouth.

Always do, if it feels rough to the touch of my finger then it gets the chamfer/deburr tool, and even if it doesn't I still give each case roughly the same attention.

I was using my micrometer to measure the trimmed cases. Always zero before measuring too.

Interestingly enough I see that different bullet manufactures and powder makers list different case trim lengths

Accurate Powder 2.800" (not sure what ed.)
Hornady 5th ed. 2.810"
Hornady 6th ed. 2.815"
Swift 2.810" (not sure what ed.)
Sierra 2.815"

and the list goes on with fluctuation's of the same nature between all of the other companies, except for Accurate Powder's listing, it was the shortest length?

I wonder why they list these different lengths?, why not just one set length for the caliber between all of them?, I do wonder if it has something to do with the chamber of the test rifle each outfit used, some being slightly +or-?

Do your references pertain to max case length or trim to length? Normally there is a 10 thou difference. If in between the two you should be ok. If you really want to split hairs cast your chamber to find actual chamber length.
