Hello,

I understand that you need a case length gauge when you use the Lee Dies. Is this the same for all dies? RCBS etc? Or is it somehow already part of the die?

If you only want to measure the case, buy a digital or dial caliper. The dies don't come with a case length gauge that I'm aware of.

Or are you talking about case trimming? If so: You need to buy the cutter and lock stud (they come together), then buy a case length gauge/ shell holder combo for each different cartridge you want to trim. Here's some pics and an explanation: http://www.cabelas.com/spod-1/0003098.shtml

I'm not sure if I understand what you are trying to find out. The process is size and deprime cases with same die. You can then use the lee case length gauge or one of the other trimmers and trim to length suggested in manuals. The lee system is cheap and when I started I set a drill up in a vise and it sped up the process.

The overall length (OAL) when the bullet is placed is important and this is adjustable in the seating die. The instructions with the dies explain this process. Manuals list OAL.

I hope this answers your questions and take care to make it safe.

x2, I think the case length gauge is most commonly referred to when talking about trimming. The case length gauge really just includes the shell holder and pilot, which lock into the cutter and lock stud.

Cheers
