case lube?

hey guys, i lube my cases with a hornady spray lube before i deprime and neck size them, but the stuff evaporates shortly after being applied. so what i did last time out was prep about 400 cases for future use. from what ive read i need to lube the inside of the neck of the case before seating the bullet, i use a lee paste that came with my press for that, should i re do the outside of the neck and the shoulder of the case before pressing in the bullet? maybe its in my head but i was having some run out issues with a sierra bullet i bought and this seemed to have nearly gotten rid of it. im sure its just the luck of the draw that i was able to pop out 8 without one having any run out where as before i was almost one for one with run out.
hope my terminology was correct on this, if not please feel free to correct me

I use the Lee Lube that comes in a toothpaste tube. I smear a one inch worm of lube arouind the inside walls of a round plastic 2 litre ice cream tub. Add the brass, put on lid and shake and swirl for 30 seconds.

Perfectly lubed cases with a tiny dab in the case mouth.

Thats the same stuff ive got. Ill give your method a try tomorrow as ive got mprr loading to do. So you wipe this stuff off before putting it in your gun ?

Yes, i wipe it using a paper towel. A quick wipe will do it.

For large volumes of loaded ammo, I tumble for 30 minutes.

Try Dillon spray lube, it is in a pump spray bottle.
You'll never even look at any of the aerosol lubes ever again.

I lay two rows of cases on a cookie sheet, one row on each side, case mouths facing the center of the cookie sheet. A quick spray with Lyman case lube towards the open case mouth. Resize then clean, ultra sonic them tumble. Then prime, then load. No lube on the inside of the case necks when seating except for the moly on the bullets.

so the moly is a lube? should i be using a lube on the bullet rather than on the inside of the case?

I use RCBS lube and a lube pad. Rub a little bit into the sponge type pad, roll the cases (7or 8 at a time) across the pad and maybe every 3rd one I drag the mouth of the case across the pad to get a little on the edge of the case mouth. Run them through the die, into the vibrator cleaner for a bit. I never lube the case mouth to insert the bullet, just chamfer the case mouth so the bullet won't grab going in, boat tail bullets seat even better.

i loaded the last 50 dry and they seemed to go in good, i could have sworn the lee instruction manual said to put a little lube inside the neck when seating the bullet. regardless ive got a ton of ammo loaded, 2 different bullets, 25 of each kind, 5 of each powder weight. should make for a good day at the range

I use powdered graphite on a case neck brush, do maybe every 3rd or 4th case. On my 264 win mag i run the brush in to every case, they really drag over the expander ball hard if they don`t get some graphite in them, i`m not loading up more than 40 at a time though. If your doing large batches the neck brush isn`t a good option.

lubde the cases....ha! Why waste time and money lubing cases when you can lube the bearing surfaces of the working parts? I lube the die, a quick pass around the die body and neck sizer with a Qtip and lee lube, and its good for 2-3 rounds.

I use the same method but use cutting oil (think Rapid-Tap, not the blue coolant) and spread a little on the pad. Theory being; if it lubes a drill at 3000 RPM, it should work equally for a press... and it does! I took a small pill container to work and filled it up. should last me for a while at least.

interesting about lubing the dies, do you do the same when youre depriming with the press? just lube the die vs the cases?

Anhydrous Lanolin !

You can roll / wipe it on or mix it with 99% rubby and spray it on.

I'm not a chemist but I suspect this stuff is the main ingredient in most commercially available case lubes. I'm also guessing that since it is a wax and not an oil it is less of a concern as a powder / primer contaminant.

Pick up a 4 oz bottle at a health food joint. It'll last you a lifetime and impress your sandal wearing green wailer types at how mother earth friendly you are.

Nope

I've been using Redding Imperial Sizing Die Wax in that fashion. That little lip balm container goes a long way.

Nope.

It's a good chance to have a quick look at each case as you wipe a wee bit of lube on it, prior to loading a batch.

Nice soft hands from the Lanolin too!

In a few years, when the current stock of case lube is used up, I might look at the spray type stuff, but for now, this meets my needs.

I use a nitro solvent on a scotch pad or fine steel wool to clean the neck and shoulder and then wipe it off. RCBS lube on a brush and do the inside of the neck for neck sizing.
For FL resizing, use RCBS lube on and RCBS lube with no contact with the shoulder. After wiping off the nitro solvent, there is sufficient lubrication to do the necks.
