i have a problem with my remington 700 in 300 mag. problem has been since evident since gun was new. usualy the first shot chanmers, fires and is extracted ok, but the second shot chambers, fires and then gets stuck. by pulling harn on the bolt i can get the casing out. i can't see any major markings on the casing, just seems like the whole casing is getting stuck. i machined the bolt lugs smooth and greased them, so that is not the problem. just using factory ammo so there should be no over pressuring of cases. what can i do? or do i need to take it to a gunsmith?

Machining the bolt lugs increased the headspace... did you set the barrel back and re chamber as well? Did you check the headspace using a steel headspace gauge?

I have seen the occasional rifle (in various makes) with pressure problems with some factory ammo. You are using factory ammo I assume...?

Try different ammo or have a gunsmith check it out and possibly increase the throat slightly to reduce pressure if everything else check out.

If it is a hand load that is sticking but not factory ammo, then you have a reloading problem.
