Case stuck in die

I have a case stuck in my FL die. It's for a 20vt and this sizing die has always been a little difficult (compared to other dies I've used) and even with a little lube it is seems that you have to use so much force to run a case thru it. Away I got a case stuck in the die on the weekend - the rim of the case got wrecked when I tried to take the case out. Is there any trick or tips on how I can get it out or do I just need to get a new sizing die?

Drill a 3/16 hole in the primer tap it with a 1/4 tap, stack washers that fit over the case till you have about 1/2 inch clearance. Put a 1/4 inch washer on top and thread in a 1/4 inch bolt, use wrench to pull out. Or go to the local gun store and buy a stuck case remover for about $20, it will do the same thing just easier. Stuck case remover comes with drill bit and tap, also 1/4 inch bolt
 
Use a commercial or homemade stuck case remover. In another thread I detailed how to do it. Basically you drill and tap the casehead, use a collar and a bolt to pull it out.

90% of long-time reloaders will admit to having had this happen to them. The other 10% are lying.

Another thing that will work (vice washers) is a socket from a wrench set.
 
Just to add a bit here. A week or so ago I was in the same predicament, case stuck in the sizing die.
Only I didn't do it, a friend gave it to me to take out. I happened to know that the case went in the die with no lube, whatsoever.
So I drilled and tapped the case. Then I submerged the entire die in kerosene and left it over night.
The next day the bolt walked it right out, easy. When the case came out it was actually damp from the kerosene, which had penetrated around the case, do lubricate it.

This method worked for me, even without tapping the hole, just used a wood screw.
All the material involved was purchased from a hardware store for $0.37.
 
HAHA........sorry.....had to laugh, we all do it.

I went to CT and got a tap and a hex head bolt to match and use a socket that fits over the case but hangs on the bottom of the die. Put a washer over the bottom of the socket and suck the case out with the bolt.
 
What's worse is when the entire case head separates in the die. I had this happen wtih a 7.62x54 case. Only way to get it out was to find a tap that was just a tad larger than the inside of the case. I gently turned it into the case, then tapped the whole works out with a small punch & hammer. If you ever have to use this method, be careful not to scratch the inside of your die with the tap.

i have also had the same problem and removed it the same way but i soaked it in kerosene for a couple days to be sure it would come out. i have also had a couple stuck cases the same way everyone else has. it happens to everyone!!! and everyone else lies

That's exactely what I have done.
But I know for a fact by the time I tried to explain it everybody would be puzzled :)
 
I made a stuck case remover pretty much the same as the one above. It works great and is easy and cheap. Now my brother can actually do more than one shell.
