I've been using Lee Precision case gauge / trimmer combo on all the various cartridges that I load for. However, for my 308 Norma Mag, not even listed on Lee website. Any reason I could not grind .060" or so off the tip of a 300 Win Mag gauge and use that?
I would like to make up half dozen "dummy cartridges" from 300 Win Mag brass to verify functioning, feeding, throat "free bore", etc. before loading up my new Norma brass. I believe with annealing first, I can just run the 300 Win Mag through the FL 308 Norma sizing dies, but then trimming will be required.

I have shortened the Lee trimmer pins to get the desired minimum trim length for a specific caliber.

I see nothing wrong with your idea as long as the larger diameter body of the trimmer does not bottom out inside the case.

You would be taking off less than 1/16 of an inch so I do not think you would have a clearance problem.
