I'm sitting here trimming my casings and it sucks.
I have the lyman case trimmer with the drill arm, and dispite that it is still a drawn out task. Anybody know of anything that cuts down on the case trimming job?

I use the Giraud case trimmer, there was a thread on these not too long ago. very fast and accurate, indexes the case on the shoulder of the case, and trims and chamfers in one pass. The trimmer easily trims a couple of hundred cases an hour if you are just touching them up. I now trim every time I resize, it's so fast there is no reason not to.

Here it is: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=121288

With the Giraud, I would say 1000 cases in one hour is easy.

The lee trimmers trim to "standard" case dimension. They aren't adjustable, but they are darn quick, and the eaiest thing to use.

I have the same trimmer as you - it's still in the box!!!!!!!!!!

Someday if I get fussy I might take it out, but the lee trimmers are cheap and easy, and FAST.

pick up a set, at about $5.00, it's worth a try.

I use the RCBS manual Trim Pro. I recently bought the 3 way cutter head in all the calibers I load for. It has sped up my trim time considerably, because now I don't have to deburr and chamfer the case mouth.

when I have a bunch of brass to do I mount my lee trimmers in my lathe and go to town . nothing like a 3/4 HP floor model brass trimmer:D :D

Yup, it sucks big time. Just finished cleaning, trimming, chamfering and preparing 200x .303 cases and another 200x 7MMRM, no power trimmer, was busy for a couple of hours  , now I have 2 new blisters to remember  .

Lee trimmer sounds good, I will try them for sure next time and probably use my drill to spin them.

Good luck

Use Lee trimmers in a drill press. Fast, simple, easy and foolproof.

Thats what I use and its definetly fast and repeatable. I also chamfer at the same time.

One thing to be careful of with the lee is once I got going to fast doing some .308win and had the chamfer tool slip out of my hand and I proceeded to run a freshly sharpened case mouth into my finger. When you can see the bone you know its gonna hurt!!!

Trimming

Electric is the way to go. I use a Dillon. It fits in a single stage rockchucker just like a die and spins a carbide cutter at 5000rpm. It also has a vacuum manifold attachment to clean up the brass shavings. Fast and accurate.

I use the Lee trimmers in a drill press also. I mount the cutter in the press, and hold the brass/lock stud in my hand.

I also have the RCBS case prep machine and I love it. I can uniform primer pockets, uniform flash holes, inside and outside chamfer the mouths just like that...

Spent evenings for last 2 weeks trimming 250 50BMG cases.

But I kinda enjoy it. (Have other mental issues too if ya wanna hear about 'em:D )

This is a trimmer-shellholder combo built by Art Minnier from Colorado:

Christ, that looks like work!:runaway: :runaway:

I believe the Giraud has the ability to do 50 cases.
Would have turned that into a 20 minute job.:D

I have used the Forestner setup that uses a drill press. As long as the depth stop on the drill press is solid and doesn't flex, it is easy and fast to trim to any length. (You also have to make sure that the table is perpendicular to the chuck.)

Trimming cases is all part of the sport, if you don't like to do it then stop shooting.:runaway:

Actually, my sport is shooting. Hand loading allows me to tailor loads and makes shooting less expensive.:dancingbanana:

Last year I got myself the power unit for my RCBS Trim Pro, along with the three-way cutter head. Wow. The task is fast and easy now. As Borat would say: "Very nice!!!"

Case trimming

You may want also to consider the Sinclair offering:

Possom Hollow Kwick Case Trimmer. It also works as a pencil sharpener and the case trimmer indexes from the case datum. It can also be powered.

(2006-B catalog. page 15, case trimmers and access.)

I use this system and also a modified Lee trimmer system powered too....

I also trim after each sizing.....
