Casehardened and blued a Remington Roller

I did some finish work on a nice little #2 Rolling block in 38 spec. Casehardened the action and buttplate. I blued the barrel and nitre blued the small bits. These are super nice little rifles.

That is downright pretty!
For some reason i have several Rolling Blocks of my own and should hunt with one of them one of these days.
I have a lonely frame I've had for years that I want to make into a 45 LC or maybe a 45-70, but it needs a crack in the tang fixed.
What did you use for the carbon source and for the heat?

I refer to that as Colour Case Hardening... and it looks great.

Case hardening does not give you nice colours.

I grind up lump wood charcoal and buy bone charcoal from ebonex. I have an old electric muffle furnace from a lab that i have rebuilt for this purpose. Not pretty but works well.
