Caseless ammo military rifles

Woops the ammo I have is not HKG11 it is daisy brand ( As I just found the box for it) .22 not sure.. .. .22cal.. still weird stuff!! Sorry I though I had HKG11 ammo but it isn't .223 or look quite what the diagrams are showing.

LOL, the Daisy stuff was a far different creature, and is one of the caseless rounds that will break down. Alot of collectors have issues with a variety of caseless rounds breaking down. The old HK rounds are pretty durable, and the Voere stuff (still available) is not really old enough yet to worry about.
 
I heard to that if the G11 jammed, it was a real pig to clear. Had to disassemble the weapon. I do believe that the final prototypes had the calibre up from 4.7mm to something like 4.92mm
 
There was always the 5.7mm Voere caseless hunting rifle but that hardly classifies as Black Rifle now does it.

Olin and Remington did experiments also S&W. There were (still are) on going attempts. There were also rounds that used just a shell head, to encapsulate the primer/extractor groove, but the rest was caseless. Remington did a fair bit of work on the Expellable rounds. Belgium, France, Germany and the US, and others have all tried/experimented with caseless ammo.
Actually about 5-10 years ago Gun Parts Corp was selling off Daisy VL ammo.

That is where I got my lifetime supply from!

Another "caseless" system I recall was a Fiochi idea that had a bullet with a hollow base filled with propellant, and the primer built into a ring around the side of the bullet. The firing pin would wack the round on the side, rather than the rear, to ignite. I haven't managed to get one of those yet.
 
The Daisy stuff sounds like an overly-sophisticated way of "dieseling" a pellet gun. When it comes to caseless ammo, I'm surprised no major company is trying <yet> to scale down the types of rounds the M1 tanks fire. As I understand it the case itself is part of the propellant, except for the case head which house the primer which itself is solid metal. Sort of a half-way point methinks.
