I am working on a 6.5 carcano.Developing load but having a problem.loaded bullets and unloaded brass cycle fine but once I fire a round I can't get case to eject I have to tap spent case out with an old cleaning rod and alot of force.I was told by a friend who is into building his own rifles that the chamber is in need of polishing. Upon looking at the chamber I now know why the cases are sticking. The chamber is somewhat rough not smooth like it should be.My buddy said that I should get some fine steel wool and make an arbor for a cordless drill and polish the chamber with fine steel wool to clen up chamber? Are there any other options?

Crocus cloth used by auto engine rebuilders does a nice job.
I use a wood (oak) dowel in a cordless drill, that way there is zero chance of doing any damage to the chamber.

I have done this with 0000 steel wool and a little oil. Saw the dowel at the end and place some steel wool in the slot. Wrap it counterclockwise. Use enough steel wool to lightly compress it in the chamber. Good luck.

Are you reloading?
Are your pressures too high?
Is the case sticking because of rust pits and excessive pressure?

You will not remove rusts pits with crocus cloth or steel wool.

Have it inspected by a gunsmith.

I had a 98 style rifle once in 7x57 that would stick the cases in the chamber that same as yours. Extractor would pop over the rim and it would be extremely hard to get out with a rod. Loads were VERY mild. I polished the chamber with steel wool as mentioned in one of the posts above and I never had a problem again.

The chamber would be nice and clean after you did that, which is good ... but if the chamber surface had rough steel imperfections/pits/etc. the steel wool would have not altered that.

That's true.......... There were not pits in the chamber, but just a very light rust frosting which was enough to hold the cases firmly after firing. The steel wool wouldn't remove pits, but it did remove the surface rust.
