Gentlemen,
While working in the M1 Garand files I ran across two files that cover a DREAM that the US ARMY has being looking at for a long time. Caseless AMMO. If Ordnance got it back then maybe there would be NO PING during WW2. READ the files and check the dates. The answer file from Ordnance gives us good data. I hope you enjoy.
If I post wrong again mod's I am sorry
Going to need help real soon guys.

More like, too bad the Berlin Wall broke down.
I don't mean to be a cold hearted person...but it would have been nice if it stayed up for another year, so we got more G11's in the world...

My favourite gun in the world.

Gentlemen,
My point was that Ordnance was talking about caseless ammo that early. There were no plans for any US ammo. It just seems that all the work that they are doing now might have been done a long time ago.

ps Remember, Germany during WW 2 had the formula for synthetic fuel???

Very interesting indeed. Note the friendly, casual language in the letters. At the time the letters were written, the US was not in the war yet but anyone with half a brain KNEW that it was just a matter of time.

BTW Clancy speaking of synthetic fuels, a neat movie to see is "The Formula" with George C Scott (shades of Patton!) and Marlon Brando (playing a big oil badguy this time). All about the nazis developing gasoline from coal. Critics hated it but I thought it was a pretty good movie.

Amazing. I seem to remember an article in Popular Science (?) on caseless ammo back in the late '60s or '70s but I didn't know it had been on the drawing boards that long ago.

Huh? There would still be "ping" because you still need a way of charging the magazine, caseless ammo or not.
