Does anyone know where one can get heavy, gas checked, hard cast bullets, with a wide meplat, in 45-70 in Canada? Seems like a very basic item and yet nobody every seems to actually have them. They will have one or two of the desired basic characteristics. Heavy would be north of 405, maybe 480, or 500.

Does anyone have a complete list of cast bullet suppliers in Canada. Not specifically 45-70

Which is it 45-70, or 45/70? Winchester says 45-70. Barnes says 45/70, and what is the difference?

I know LBT used to make a 460gr hard cast gas check with a wide meplat. I bought a couple of boxes years ago in Dundee. I used to load them to Lev 2 for the Marlins . I put one into a bull moose one time as he was running directly away from me at 80ish yards. The bullet entered just to the left of his pooper, went through him lengthwise and exited his throat. Forward momentum carried him another 10 feet before he piled up. I kinda save the remaining ones I have for (special occasions ) and have been using 405gr HC,GC now that come from an RCBC mold also loaded to Lev 2 and have had pretty similar results so I decided to stick with them.

One thing you have to pay particular attention to when going heavy for a 45-70...what rifle are you planning to use them in, if a Marlin, most of the commercial offered slugs above 405 gr have a crimp ring to bullet nose length that is too long to feed thru the mag (they work perfect feeding SS thru the ejection port tho).
86 Win , originals or Miroku will feed up to 450 gr RNFP because they are manuf with a longer action to feed 45-90 as well.
The 500,s are pretty much limited to SS feeding thru the action top or in the SS buffalo type rifles.

As stated above, the LBT was designed to function thru Marlin lever guns and has the proper crimp groove to keep the COL correct.
