I was given 175 gr cast bullets (Lyman mold) for my .32 spl but cant find any load data for cast in .32 cal. The guy who gave me the bullets uses 23.5 gr of IMR4198 (with gas checks), which is likely a bit hotter than I want. I would prefer not to use gas checks if possible. I want to be able to use it in Cowboy Action Shooting. Any suggestions?

From Lyman Handbook of Cast Bullets. For 180 grain gascheck, 19 grains of 4198 for 1710 fps. to a max of 26 grains for 2125.
For 160 grain bullet, 18 grains for 1700.
You didn't say if the bullets were for gas checks, or not. Even if they are for gas check, they should work good without the gas checks, at the lower speeds.
I think I could figure out a low velocity load with 4198, or use 2400, or Unique, or something like that and go down to 1200, or whatever you wanted.

You can also use pretty much the same data as a 30-30 load. They're very close.....the 30-30 being slightly more conservative but not by much.

173gr gas checked cast bullet for the 30-30
IMR-4198 18 grains to start at 1602fps to a max of 23.5 grains at 1999fps

Unique is probably your cheapest route
173gr gas checked bullet for 30-30
Start at 7 grains at 1240fps to a max of 10.6 grains at 1555 fps

Many claim that Unique is a dirty powder, but it also costs a lot less because you're using less.

7-8 Grains of trail boss will work great for cowboy action, low recoil, really clean burning and no need for gas checks.

I didn't think the .32 sp. was legal for Cowboy action, it had to be pistol cals., 32/20 okay, .32/40, .32 Special, not okay!! You would be better served getting a mold that is not cut for a gas check, such as Lyman #319247, a copy of the orig. factory bullet for the .32/40.
