Cast Bullets for 416 Rigby and 458 Win Mag.

Well, I took your advice jethunter, and I bought a .459 535RN for my 458 and a 378 275grFN for my 375 from NOE. They look great, can't wait to run a batch and see what they're like.
 
Is that .459" 535 gr RN the "Postell" bullet? I have one of those molds too that I use in 45-70 but I've been wondering how it would work in a 458.

Craig Boddington prefers a 400 grain for the 416, and a 500 grain for the 458win. While other cartidges like the Lott can take andvantage of heavy bullets, case capacity isn't enough to get the desired performance from a 550 grain bullet. Of course this is based on hunting in africa...

I belive Mr. Boddington is probably correct and those are likely optimum bullet weights for maximum energy delivered to target in those cartridges. But for times when you aren't hunting buff or elephant other bullet weights might be useful as well. :)

I have that one too. That's the NOE version of the "Postell" bullet. Designed for 45-70 Long Range Black Powder shooters but the long bore riding nose should work in .458 too.

I hope so. Basically I want some reasonably accurate plinking loads so I can shoot these rifles without the recoil and expense of full power African game loads.
 
I went with the LBT WFN and LFN bullets for 450-400NE 3" in my Ruger. They are both nice bullets. one is 320gr and one is 400gr, both gaschecked with .416 checks At the time I got the moulds built, Veral told me to get the .416 Gator checks for them, these moulds were set up to use those. No problem matching factory velocities for the 400grDGX with the 320gr cast and AA5744.
