Thought it was about time my O3A3 had a trip to the range

Rifle- Remington produced O3A3- When I bought this rifle about 20 yrs ago it had a 4 groove barrel marked 2-43. This barrel looked OK except it was badly worn at muzzle. Like no rifling left. Probably from a lot of cleaning rod wear. It didn't do well with jacketed bullets. Groups of 3-4" at 50 yds. Strangely cast bullets sized 311 shot somewhat better. I had it rebarreled by Gunco in Ottawa with a brand new Rem marked 1-44 two groove barrel. I have never fired a jacketed bullet in it

Load- I had 3 different part boxes of loads to use up. All had same bullet. Lyman 311291 RN sized 311. These bullets were all cast about 10 years ago of WW plus 2% tin. Water quenched and Hornady CG's
Powders were 25.0 grs of H4198, 25.0 grs of 5744 and 21.0 grs of 2400. All loads shot to same point of impact and grouped around an inch and a half at 50 yds from bench. Probably as good as the old eyes see. I got tired of going down to set up our 5" gongs at 100 yds.Too easy- no misses with 20 plus shots.

This is my favorite milsurp shooter rifle

As always check all "internet" loads with a couple reliable sources before using.

I love my 1918 manufactured 03 Springfield! !

I load Lee .311 180 grain cast bullets with either 18 grains of 2400 or 25 grains of imr4198. I've done a little bedding work and added a match sight to mine and it's a consistent moa shooter with cast loads.

Can't argue with that!!
