Cast bullets

I just cast a few hundred bullets with Lyman mold 452484 for my 45 auto. It is a 225 gr bullet according to Lyman, but mine came out at 240-245 gr bullets. I use mainly wheel weights plus a few salvaged cast bullets from the range. Why is there so much difference in weight? I know they are seldom the same, but usually I don't find this much of a difference.

I'm just starting to learn this stuff as well, But I think once you swage them they should come out to the same ...or closer to it any way.

Weight difference is prolly just some uneven mixing of alloys, some molds cast heavier then advertised, some lighter. Lyman uses their #2 alloy for weight specs, if you are using a softer alloy, which I believe you are, the bullets will be heavier!!

Pure lead is heavier than alloy, since the alloying metals like antimony and tin are much lighter than lead. Therefore, the more tin or antimony in the alloy, the lighter it will be.

My Lee 230 TC is weighs 239-241 grains since I cast 50/50 WW/purelead.
