Is there any shooter using cast in there 444 marlin.Im looking for a mold that will chamber in my 444 ,i have a 429421 but leading band doesn,t allow me to crimp or chamber it.
I used a 310gr lee gas check cast bullets in my 444 Outfitter. I made a low recoil load with Unique which replicated the ballistics of my 260gr Gold Dot hunting round at 70 yards. I did play with the OAL in the first round I made (without powder) to find the critical length my rifle would chamber. I used a factory crimp die to crimp it where it needed to be crimped.
I would think the Lyman 429667 / or a copy of it would work the best
but I have heard the 429667 could also cast undersize ... but that would be good for powder coat

I had three moulds made up for me a number of years ago because I couldn't find anything from any of the cast bullet manufacturers that fit my criteria. Since I had an older microgroove barrel the bullets needed to be sized as least .432 and be driven at full tilt to get really good accuracy out of the rifle. The various 44 Magnum bullets I tried had the crimp groove in the wrong place or I had to crimp over the groove which was goofy in my books. I had a light weight .434 bullet made for me that weighs about 200 grains that I called the screamer and then I helped design another heaver weight bullets that could be made with or without a hollow point with three distinct crimp grooves. The top one was for 444 marlin, the middle one was for 44 mag Marlin lever and the bottom one was for 44 magnum revolvers. I tell you it works great. The third one was a heavy weight at 350 grns and it also shoots great. All three with my 1-4x scope will do about 1.5" groups or better at 100 Meters. NOE and Mihec Molds had some in their inventory last I checked a few years ago and also Ranch Dog made one up with the Lee Microgroove but I think he quit the business and sold or gave the designs to NOE to make.
I have some heirloom 45-70's and I wanted a modern lever Marlin in 45-70 and I thought about it and was scared to inadvertently put a full stout Marlin only round into an original 1874 sharps so I decided to just go with the 444 Marlin. Love the round. I can send you the drawings of the bullet molds etc. if you want to go that route. I had mine made by Mountain Molds to my specifications.
My .444 Marlin shoots the Lee 310gr decent but my best results are with my custom Mountain Mold 325gr sizes at .432 and powder coated. Took a nice bear with it last spring.
The lee 310 mold in the short FTX brass works well. I just sold my 444 and my brass but have a few Lee molds left over as well as gas checks and a custom .433 sizing die message me if interested
