I decided to melt down some of my coww's today. I didn't know how much smoke it was going to make, or how long it was going to take so I did a small batch of around 20 - 25 pounds. The last thing I wanted to do was tick off my neighbors with a bunch of stinking toxic smoke. Here are the results!

One thing I was wondering about, in the photos you can see where the lead was on the bottom of the muffin tin I used as a mold. They are all bubbly. Is that normal or did I do something wrong?

I'm fairly new to melting lead, but I think it's either moisture in your ingot mold and or mold not hot enough. The lead is still good to go though.

the lead is ruined, you better send it all to me :)

it's the Teflon gassing off from the heat of the molten lead, no harm what so ever to the lead, carry on!

what are you going to be casting?

If the tin molds were coated, that's just the coating burning/ gassing off....a few more good molding sessions and that'll go away:D....like another poster said, the lead is no good now...you need to give it to me and I'll dispose of it properly:p

Hahaha. I'll get right on that. Just send you address along with a self addressed stamped envelope and it'll be in the mail by noon tomorrow.

I plan on casting 303 British (since there never seems to be any around and when there is its gone within days) and shot (need to pick up a shotmaker).

That happened to me when I first used a teflon pan. After a while it burned off and the ingots began to stick. I picked up a spray can of Jig-A-Loo graphite spray and gave each cup a really quick shot of the stuff. The ingots almost jump right out now, screw the teflon!

great advice, i have also used it in my cheap lee molds, but i don't put anything (including smoking them with a flame) in my $100 molds.

Drop by princess auto. they have a cast iron square pan that will hold 10 lbs. The ingots fit nicely in the Lee 20 LB pot. Non bottom pour model. It may work in the bottom pour but I don't use one.
