Casting bullets for BP firearms and finding the best lead for it

Like other have said, underground cable wrap used for waterproofing splices , for hydro electric or telecommunications it was and had to be 99.8% pure ...I worked in a warehouse and cut lead sleeves and picked orders for the construction department of the Manitoba Telephone System. I would see the paperwork from Canada Metals and it had to be "Bell Spec" . Fast forward 25 yrs they were changing the old lead splice cases out by the 100s and installing new 3M brand plastic. That is when I offered to buy at Pennies per pound.
The old dodge would be down on the bump stops , would buy for a whole year ..stockpile to the spring then do a weeklong casting session melting it all down into 8lb bricks my shooting partner and I have the whole left side of his garage floor stacked about 1ft high x1ft wide running the length

Try trading lead on the EE locally

Ive traded many pounds of wheelweight lead for pure. Many people prefer the harder ww stuff for their purposes and may have the softer pure stuff that you need.

I get my ww lead from local small garages that still use lead ww

I have a fair amount of lead from various sources, don`t really use the wheel weight stuff unless i`m just plinking or making SSGs for the 12 ga. Use those for coyotes as they`ll come right up to the chicken house during the day. I use a sand trap that catches most of my cast for re-use. Been shooting the same few pounds for quite some time now

I get mine at Canada Metals in Calgary. I don't consider their prices out of line for guaranteed pure lead and tin. There are plenty of variables involved in precision shooting with cast bullets, without having doubts about your alloy. YMMV.

Lead prices at the west coast will run you close to $3.00 pound by the time you tax it Recently was quoted $1.91 USD . for 60 pound ingots .These are 99.9% pure lead so there’s no guessing.
