casting your own bullets, which are the best to cast

woops it's actually a 312 which is even better since my rifle's slugged out at 311. It's an el cheapo Lee mod #90385. That sure is a nice mold in the link.

Coreyd, piss off. Some of us are more than happy to help out people just starting. If you have a problem with it, your time is best served elsewhere. It's a discussion forum, not a frackin' school.
^^ This. There are posts on these threads that most of us can learn from.

he just started selling his molds a few months back now and the reviews say they are really nice. if i wasn't strapped for cash i would order his 9mm mold and buckshot mold. check out NOE molds and Mihec molds, they are really nice too.

My "SKS" mold is the Heavy Metal Molds 312-155-2. It's a 6 cavity gas check that I got in a group buy at Cast Boolits. It is my first HM Mold, but it won't be my last.

Makes me think I've gotta make some like minded firearms enthusiast friends. In the mean time I'm converting one of my existing friends to our side and it's pretty well the pal/rpal that's separating him from full fledged enthusiasm.

.... i would also suggest getting Lymans cast book manual as well. hope this info helps. cast bullets can be allot of fun as long as you understand and set your goals correctly.dont expect to jump straight into jacketed bullet loads using cast bullets and get accuracy or any results. it does require a bit of research and a learning curve.

That's great advice. I remember when I didn't know what a gas check was either. You have other important questions too, you just don't know what they are yet, hence the need to read up starting at the basics.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook is widely available on-line. I've bought each version as they came out.

Rivival and update !!!!

I am using a lee .309 cast 120 ground, sized to 308 and gas checked, lubed with both tumble lubed and pan lubed with a home blend, from my 30-30, being pushed by 16 grs of IMR-sr 4759, with excellent results. Contact me with furher questions

308 sounds a bit small unless your barrel slugs at 306 or 307.
i would leave the bullets at 309 or even 310 diam if using soft alloy.
you don't have to double lube, you can use tumble lube or pan lubing, that may make your life easier.
if you have the Lee reloading manual there is an entire section with load data for cast bullets and even some load data charts using cast bullets in the 30-30.
