A friend has been doing some shooting and thinks she wants her own shotgun. She has used a 12 and a 20 pump. I was thinking a Mossberg 930 or a Weatherby s08 auto in 12. Both can be had in VG used for about $500. A lady/youth gun might be the way to go, or cut so lop is right. What say u that have been down this road?

Armsan makes the Weatherby shotguns, I believe. You can buy the Armsan A620 for $595 from Tradeex: https://www.tradeexcanada.com/content/armsan-a620-red-20ga-x-3-inch-semi-auto-shotgun. Definitely a cool looking gun. I was going to get it for my wife but then she told me she has no interest in shotgunning nor bird hunting. She likes rifles, bows, and big game hunting so not all is lost :).

After the issues that one of our club members had with his Armsan, I can't recommend that brand. The fore end would pull away from the receiver after a few shots, and the gun would jam. His gun had a bronze colored receiver and magazine cap.

What does she want to do with it? Hunt? Shoot trap, skeet, or sporting clays? 3 gun? Or just bang away at the range? They are all different.
You won't find very many shotguns in the 500.00 range that will fit a smaller person. I have tried to find guns for a number of women and most involved shortening the stock. Weight can also be an issue with the competition O/U's being too barrel heavy.

I love my Remington 870 Express Tactical Magpul in 12 gauge. The Magpul SGA stock has spacers that allow you to adjust LOP. The stock also has a nice rubber pad for recoil mitigation.

Take her to a gun shop and see which guns she is able to handle well. She may be able to handle full size, maybe not. Only her trying it will tell. Then you can go from there.

I bought a 20g Browning Gold SL (Super Light) semi for my wife to use. A very soft shooting gun and cycles anything I put in it. Very nice handling. Not easy to come by though.
