CAT M4 Tool

I started cleaning out carbon more often afte seeing corrosion under carbon buildup. Sure, if you never clean it, you will never see it either.

YMMV - I cleaned mine. It is your tool and your money.

I have never seen corrosion under carbon in 30 years of shooting an AR platform, and after inspecting thousands firearms. Corrosion and pitting are not caused by carbon, that is a myth, it is caused by improper storage, and lack of lube as shown by testing done by E.A.G.
I'm not saying cleaning is a bad thing, but cleaning to excess is. These stupid gadgets are wastes of money, spend yours as you see fit.

Well fellas I'm sorry. I am new to AR's and every gun I have ever owned is cleaned mirror bright, lube was used very sparingly and who knows what other old 'rules of thumb' go out the window with these new fangled AR's? My father and grandfather would chit if they saw crud like that, or wet rifle actions. They raised me the same way and their ways work for conventional sporting rifles.

Not to stir the pot or be a dink, Reaper...but if those carbon deposits get wet (I don't know how they would - but just suppose) - isn't it possible that corrosion could occur?

The AR is far from "new". They come from the factory clean and they work clean, I see no harm in keeping them that way. Improper cleaning can damage your rifle, regular proper cleaning cannot.

on another note....I got mine and tried it out on a not too dirty bolt....worked GREAT!!!! Can't wait to try it on a dirty gun.
