They are expensive that is for sure, I'm going through the same conversation with my wife right now. And with a young family that is a lot of capital to recover, I found a deal to get back into one so it won't be that bad, but still its a lot of money...
of course its your decision, the nice thing about firearms is you can usually get a similar amount of value out of them year to year. Hobbies cost money, regardless of what you get into. My strategy has been to get my wife involved, the more she gets involved, the more she understands the costs and is ok with them. Once our son is old enough to shoot you better believe he's going to be right beside mom and dad grouping shots with a .22
That said, I think firearms is one of the only hobbies where as time passes you dont take a kicking on resale (motorsports is what I'm thinking about lol)
