I went out to do a bit of shooting today and tried some CB Longs in my bolt gun and would have to say my Condor air rifle is louder. I was shooting at 51 yards and would hear what sounded like a dry fire and than the bullet hitting the target. They were about 6-7 inches low at that distance.

I always try out some CBL in any bolt gun I get. They are virtually silent. All I hear is the firing pin hitting the rim and the bullet piercing the target a fraction of a second later. In most guns they shoot low, the one exception being the CZ 452 I once owned, which shot ANY ammo at ANY range dead-on between 20 and 75m at point of aim with the iron sights. Never seen that in any other .22. I need to get one of those again :) .

I recall trying CB in my 10/22 once. Won't cycle the action causing FTE, not surprising.

I like the longer-barrels when firing the CBL's, but that's just me; I always thought they developed more "oomph" in them than in the 18-inch barrels, as counter-intuitive as that seems...;)

If I recall correctly, the fired rounds would extract partially and the bolt would not return to battery. So they would not stove pipe or anything, you would just have to yank the bolt back to eject the fired case.

C ity B ullet L ow noise is great for plinking, either the short or long works very
well with my Henry pump action and as well as with my Golden boy.
The best part is that with my Weatherby XXII has the same POI as other
bullets that I use at 20 yards.

What the world (well, the rural world anyway) really needs is a hollow-point version of the CB Long. I've found the CBL to be just about the perfect round for whacking pigeons in barns and riding arenas. Just enough velocity to penetrate, but not enough to go through the metal roof. I think an HP version would kill a bit more reliably, but maybe there might not be enough velocity to expand consistently. Alternatively, Paco Kelly needs to come up with a CBL version of his SGB tool that puts a big flat meplat on RN .22lr rounds.

I've used the Paco tool to make HP CB longs; they have a "wonderful" terminal impact and expand pretty well (about .28 as I recall, esp. when filled with wax ;)):

a CB long will also take a coon if you shoot it between the eyes-very handy for dispatching anything bothering your chickens, but you don't want to advertise the fact

I thought I read some where that they were going to be coming out with something like that fairly soon.

Would it be effective? The Quickshok has speed going for it, coupled with its swagged bullets, in terms of its terminal "poof" effect - but the CB...maybe. I'd be curious to see the article!
