CCI #34 primer availability

I recently purchased a Norinco M14 and would like to load some ammo for it.

I have searched, but cannot locate these primers for sale in Canada. If these cannot be found, is there another primer that is sufficiently hard to safely handle the floating fire pin?

I fear that I may be stuck with mil surplus ammo...

Please advise.

Any CCI or Winchester Large Rifle primer will work fine. Other brands likely will too. I use only Winchester LR or LR Magnum and have no issues. All my primers are seated properly.

400 Rounds for an M14 with CCI Large rifle primers and no issues. Keep an eye on the seating.

If there was a concern about regular primers there should be a warning in the manual for the rifle. The manufacturers have legal departments that would have put the warning in there years ago if it were a problem.

I would also put money on the ammo companies using the lowest cost componets they can in standard ammo. It is just how they make their money.

Take your time and do a good job. Use the money you save on primers to shoot more.

Good to know. I already decided on hand priming all the rounds I load until I am much more experienced. I already have the Lee hand primer with the shellholder set.

I also cleaned the firing pin/bolt out well with simple green.

There is a warning with most rifles about shooting handloads. That covers the "regular primer " warning.

Talk to Doug Rayner of Rayn'er Shine Gunworks. He often has CCI #34 primers. I have purchased them a few times in Canada, from a few sources, so I know they can be found, just aren't terribly common.
