CCI Blazer/Stinger okay for 'general purpose' use?

Ciphery, the Gunsmith at Gravel Canada (Remington) has said that even the 597 should not be shot with hypervelocity shells as it can and will damage the return springs, and possibly damage the receiver

In summery a HYPER VELOCITY round is ok to plink or pest control with.(They will effectively remove ground hogs, raccoons and the like!)
From a bolt, pump, lever or single shot rifle where the action is locked into battery so as to utilize all the powder and the round can either be placed into the chamber directly or the action worked in such a manner as to not disrupt any of the bullet on the more delicate THP bullets.
Note that some semi autos have been damaged by HYPER VELOCITY ammo. The action is blown back with such force that damage can and does occur.(I have personally seen an older High Standard handgun come apart!) While I have fired my Rem597 with this type of ammo It is a new gun with a strong action and utilizes a rubber bolt stop not found on all other actions, nor does it possess a tight match chamber. It will munch, bend, gauge or otherwise wreck truncated ammo however.

I am with this gentleman - you are running a risk using hyper and even high velocity in older pistols such as your browning. I have no idea why you would want to put them in to a pardini either. Pistols such as the pardinis are engineered around standard velocity ammunition. It may not break the pistol, but it can definitely be harder on it. Most .22 pistols shoot much better (tighter groups) with standard velocity ammunition anyway. The only advantage that I can see in using high velocity is that it tends to be cheaper.

If you want some inexpensive .22 standard velocity to try I would recommend winchester T-22 - lebaron and others often have it for around $26 a brick.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't had any problems yet but understand the potential risk. If I wish to continue the use of hyper velocity ammo I will replace the stock guidsprings. For the record the 597 was also chambered in 22mag,17hmr, the difference being the springs. The hmr has been discontinued due to failures with the bolt guide springs and extractors. Thanx again, sorry about the thread hijack. Er hm back to business ;)

Interesting side-note

I've been shooting for a while now, mostly .22s, but still enjoy the back and forth that I read at CGN. That said, it was interesting to read ciphers comments about CCI Stinger construction versus other types and possible affects on accuracy. My recently departed Norinco JW25-A w/3-9X30something scope LOVED Stingers!! Added side effect was their performance on gophers:)
I never shot my best groups with the Stingers but can honestly say I never had any issues with them at all. They also worked flawlessly in my Ruger 22/45.
For general purpose use I usually get Federal bulk pak stuff from Cambodian Tire. Seems to work fine in all my guns and dispatches gophers as dead as the next .22.
