CCI BR Primers

Have the reloaders out there noticed any difference in these primers from the CCI 200.

Just wondering if the difference you pay actually translates into something you can see on paper.

What are you folks seeing with these?

I have noticed my groups shrink with them. I use them in .22 hornet, .223, 6.5x47, 7mm-08AI, and 35 Whelen AI. The biggest gain for me was with the little .22 Hornet, huge difference over the standard CCI and the Winchester one as well.

yes +1 for group shrinkage with the CCI BR primers in both 308 win and 243 win.

I've only used BR-4 primers in my 6BR, so have no basis for comparison. You may find this article on large rifle primers of interest. It seems "soft" primers rather than hot primers are considered the best.

Yes, but you have to have a firearm that can take advantage of this. ie a 2.5" grouping Rem 7400 in '06 ain't going to shoot sub inch just with a primer change. Combine these primers with precision handloading equipment and other top notch components with a matching firearm and things will start to make you smile.

Will my tuned 700 in 7mm-08 with Krieger barrel be able to take advantage of em??

Just want to take advantage of everything I can developing my target loads.

They work well in my 223,but it prefers Federal 205M.I am going to try both in my 6.5x47.

It would certainly have the potential to. Lots of little tricks when handloading to bring out the absolute best with something like that.

I've got several thousand of them if you want to try it out for yourself. I've had a standing offer going for awhile to swap them for half their number of even standard Federals. Oddly, nobody has ever taken me up on it, even at what amounts to 25-30 cents on the dollar. Maybe they're trying to tell me something?

+1 with A&Shuntr.

Assuming that you are shooting a precision rifle, ie, sub 3/4 min. on down, primers do make a difference.
After plenty of testing, any/all of my long range shooters, to date, prefer to be sparked by CCIBR2 or FED215M.

Less 'fliers', more consistent velocities, and tighter, less vertical groups.

Wasted far fewer rounds chasing phantom misses since switching to better primers

I think the big advantage of a bench primer is they are more simlar, lot to lot. Another reason why you should buy your primers at least 5,000 at a time, or 10,000 - all the same lot #.

Actually, its the -35 that I found to be the biggest problem. The accuracy isn't my beef, its the disturbing pattern of misfires. Primer shortages have got me shooting primers that might not be my first choice. Given the choice I'd happily go back to Federal gold medal match in everything, but as it stands I save the stash for ammo that matters.

I used to use the BR4's in my 6BR but switched to the 450 Magnum primers.

No velocity difference.
No accuracy difference.
Can buy more 450 primers/$1 than the BR4's.

That being said, when it comes to my larger cases I use the BR2's simply because I had a chance to buy 10,000 of the suckers at one go.
