CCI mini mag - quality control

10 shot groups with a stock 10 22 at 50 yards.

Thanks!

Can you provide a little more detail too?

What size are those targets?

Which blazer ammo?

How stock is stock? (Out of the box stock? Or any tweaks to improve accuracy?)

Which model of 10/22? Stainless barrel or blued?

Shooting from what kind of rest?

ammo is the bricks with the 50 round boxes not the loose packed ones. I use a front rest (vanguard porta aim) with the rifle against my shoulder. Scope is a 3x9x40 AO. The rifle is a blued DSP I use the original stock as I like the walnut dsp stock. I have a timiny drop in trigger probably too expensive considering the price of the rifle but I like it. No other upgrades other than the trigger. The inside black on the target is 1.5 inches, so not the best groups just showing an example of a stock 10 22.

No haven`t tried at 100 I suppose I should.

there is a nice assortment of printable targets. At the top of the rimfire page click on postal matches, then click on the sticky for online match rules, once in there go to page two and links for targets are right at the bottom.

A little late ,but I saw on YouTube where a fellow had a guage the measured rim thickness (Brownells) and it was very surprising how much variance there can be.He would check his rimfire ammo and only keep the high range thickness ammo for target and varmint and the rest just for plinking.

So it must make sense kodiakjack.

Very interesting.

OBTW-I got the .22 rimfire bug.....LR and Magnum and loving it.Will probably add a few more rifles to the gun room this spring.

Cheers

Don't mean to burst your bubble but what your getting is about all you can expect from the stock rifle. Checkout rimfire central. Open up your wallet buy a kidd barrel --- kidd trigger---kidd bolt---etc. Put about $1500 into it & it will shoot as good as a stock cz-452 with good ammo.......trust me--------lots of people can attest to this!

I disagree, I think a 10/22 with a stock barrel and bolt is capable of much better accuracy without a lot of expensive barrel and bolt upgrades - I do agree that some type of trigger upgrade or modification is essential. I took my new 10/22 takedown (w/ Kidd trigger) to a friends backyard last weekend and I was getting 2-3" groups at 50 yds with Mini-Mag and Federal Auto Match, but when I switched to SK Rifle Match the groups shrank considerably -the best of 4, 5 shot groups was 1/2". In my opinion the best bang for the buck regarding 10/22 accuracy is 1) trigger and 2) ammo. Find the ammo that works best and you can potentially save a lot of money in modifications. Every 22 has a favourite ammo for accuracy, my CZ452V preferred SK-Rifle Match, my CZ455TH prefers RWS, my 10/22 benchrest rifle prefers Remington Target Rifle (by Eley).

I fired 5 - 10 shot groups at 100 meters with Blazer and the measurements were:
Height-Width
2.5 - 2.5
4.4 - 3.1
2.3 - 3.8
2.4 - 2.3
3.7 - 3.0
Remington after sighting in with a five shot 1.5"
3.0 - 3.0
Federal Match HV
3.1 - 2.5
1.8 - 2.8
Winds were shifting left to right and right to left with highs of 5 mph.
Temperature was around 5 degree C.
I wasn't wasting any time and only checked the wind flag just prior to running off 10 rounds

Had this occurred in a field of Gophers there would be a health population of breeders left . . . if they didn't show up closer for a second chance!

Thanks horseman! Appreciate your input. :)

Have you done any modifications to your 10/22? Did you leave the barrel and on?

SK+ or SK Rifle Match would be my suggestion. This target was not shot with a 10/22, but does show the significant difference ammo selection makes even at short range (ARX160 rifle, Busnell 2-7x scope, 10 round groups at 25 yds):

This is a Deluxe with a 22"barrel.
The Trigger should arrive Wednesday following a "Royal Canadian Post" Flex Delivery screw up.
I have lots of premium ammo but this is a gopher gun and if I miss at 100 meters then the distance will be closed.
With membership at two ranges my sighting in range is either 100 yards or meters. Today was the longer range and that required about two minutes of elevation increase.
The American Eagle, ThunderBolt, Blazer and CCI MiniMags RN are all about 1200 fps as is the Federal Target HV. A brick of the Target HV is roughly double the cost of the first three and the MiniMags run over $50 per 500.

Wow. That's damn definitive. I'll try to pick some up next time time I get to the lgs.

I don't "need" that kind of accuracy, but it would be nice to know what it's capable of. Thanks :)

Ok, I wasn't familiar with the "deluxe". Looks like there's multiple versions of the "deluxe" and they're each adaptations of the "sporter" as offered exclusively by various vendors. Mine's just a carbine, so 18.5 barrel.
