Saw some in Red Deer the other day at that new gun store in Gasoline Alley for $35. per 1000.
Just before you crucify your buddy, I have seen some places selling them for at least in that neighborhood.
It's absolutely ridiculous, but it's possible your buddy paid that much for them, and simply wants what he paid.
If he paid $35 and is trying to sell them to you for $60, go kick him in the nuts.
Since I live a long way from anything, standard operating procedure among my friends is, if you need powder or primers etc, and I have some spare, take mine and replace it when you can find some. Saves dealing in dollars, but gets us all by until the next time someone gets to a place that carries stuff at a reasonable price.

I will quit shooting when "friends" do this to me. Nah, I think primers were less than 10 bucks/1000 when I started reloading. Shooting is too much fun to give up on.
