CCI Stinger not for match chambers?

I was just reading the info provided on the CCI website about their products. The notes for the CCI Stinger say that it is not for use in a match chambers? Is this because of the velocity that they travel at? Or is it because they are copper coated and travel at high velocity.

Mostly curious. I've been using them in the old .22's but the new MarkII BTVSS has only seen Eley Tenex and CCI CB Longs. Would like to maintain the accuracy of this rifle so not looking to damage it and would rather pick something else ammunition wise for gopher shooting if that were the case.

CCI stingers are not meant for match chambers because the case lenght on these rounds is slightly longer than other ordinary .22lr casings. Any gun with a match chamber in you shouldn't shoot. I doubt your savage has a match chamber but regardless of it does or not I doubt highly that stingers will shoot well in the gun. A good compromize for this round would be the CCI velociters. Very fast and powerful - shuold work well for gopher shooting. I have shot stingers in my CZ before with no problems but accuracy wasn't good.
 
Ah! Thanks for the info. To be honest I'm not even sure what the requirement is to be considered a match chamber. Not that I think the MarkII would have one just that if it is bad for one type you might expect it to be a poor choice for all. I'll just let some friends burn up the remaining couple hundred stingers in my mossberg along with some of the other stuff I don't really much want to shoot myself but hate to just toss out (remington subsonics anyone?).

I'm actually looking forward to trying out one of you online matches. I used to shoot the 20 yard targets 12 years ago and now want to see how poor my shooting ability has become :redface: I thought the BTVSS would be a good place to start and so far it seems to shoot very tiny little groups... that or I'm only hitting the target once every ten shots! :D

I am not sure of the exact measurements when it is considered a match chamber but there are different types of match chambers. For example, the 10/22 with an aftermarket GM barrel has a bentz chamber. This is about as tight as they can make it for a GM barrel while still make it reliable enough to eject.

Then on some of the target .22's you have the real tight match chamber. If you push the round in with your finger fairly tightly it will stick out still about 1/10 of an inch. You then push the round in the rest of the way with the bolt and the bullet engages in the rifling. My 52 has the tightest match chamber I know of.

I recently read an article on 22 match chambers & 22 accuracy.
Match chambers are very precise but also they are designed to slightly push the head of the cartridge against the rifling. According to the writer this is to ensure that the rim of the case is flush with the mouth of the chamber & gives consistent ignition.

Perhaps CCI stingers might get pushed in too far and raise pressures ???
