Hey everyone, i have a .22LR dedicated AR upper, it does not function well using winchester dynapoints, remington thunderbolt or other cheap ammo.
It does Function well with CCI stingers, i believe the hotter load allows the full cycle and ejection of spent shells, and loading of new ones into the chamber. however i have seen the Minimags mentioned, does anyone know if the Minimags put out enough power to cycle my stiff mechanism maybe? Or should i stick with stingers

Velocitor owns them all. It is by far my favourite bullet. I would prefer Stingers\Quik-Shok for Gophers but they don't shoot as well. Plus they function 100% in every gun I have ran them through.

I like the Velocitors a lot, but they are pricey and a little difficult to get in my area.

Have you tried the Winchester Super X:

I have tried them in my Levers, Semi and bolt actions and they worked flawlessly and they are available just about everywhere(even Walmart).

Ditto the Velocitor comments -- they are THE supreme 22LR ammo for any non-benchrest application. It will cycle any action with snap, makes a noticeably louder bang, hits harder when hunting, and accuracy is usually fairly decent in most guns (it runs 3/4 inch at 50 meters in my 10/22, which is better than 90% of the ammo I've ever tried in that rifle).

out of my 10/22 with tacsol barrel the velocoraptors will not group worth crap.... easily doblue the group size of its favorite load which is cci minimags.... stingers do wellthough but the point of impact is different then the mini mags.

If a Velocitor (40grain-1435ft/s) can't cycle your gun, What do you use?

It's very possible that the chamber in that gun isn't tight enough to keep a hot load like a Velocitor from ejecting before peak pressure is reached, thus causing all sorts of problems. The factory chamber on my Ruger 10/22 had that exact problem -- with Velocitors, I'd get radical inconsistent velocites, ranging from 800 to 1200 FPS, and lots of powder blowing back in my face. Feed it something a little less hot, and it worked flawlessly.

I later switched that barrel for a Green Mountain with a match chamber, and it smartened right up to 1400+FPS and 3/4 inch groups with Veloctiors.

I really don't want to change the mainspring on my Gov't Model every time I change calibers, so I took the advice in the Kimber manual and stick to Stingers. They function the action flawlessly (approx 1,290 fps) and are accurate enough to take down steel reactive gophers at 65 meters.
