CDN Airforce side arm post WWII?

I wonder if anyone can assist me, I looking to uncover which if any side arms were issues to members of the Canadian Airforce between 1948-1980. In paticular I am looking for arms that may be been issued to air crews flying transport planes.

It would surprise me if the BHP wasn't issued, though during the Trudeau years I'd be surprised if ANY sidearm was issued. At that time we were busy doing "aid work" and you don't need filthy,baby killing guns for that most worthy job.
 
I'm guessing they were issued Inglis Browning P-35 High Power pistols as previously mentioned or perhaps if anything else Enfield No.2 or Webley Mk.VI revolvers during the early part of the years you mentioned.

I don't think the Sig P225 or P226 were issued to airmen, I've only seen those issued to MPs, naval boarding parties, close protection and JTF-2.
 
As I recall a discussion on another forum the Sig 225 and HP were considered to big for fighter pilots and a small single stack Sig was purchased for them.

In the Trudeau years I think they issued the white flag only. To Pierre the Military was like dog crap in the treads of his TENNIS SHOES.
 
The RCAF appears to have retained the .380" S&W for a cosiderable time. They were still ordering .380" ammo as late as 1956. These were replaced by Brownings c1960.
In the 60s and 70s 465 Colt Cobras 3" bl , 500 S&W M36s and some M60s, all 38 Spl, were ordered for MPs and air crew. The Browning was considered too bulky for air crew.

I was in the RCAF Police from 1963 thru to retirement as an MP in the CF in 1987.

The Air Force Police carried the Browning 9mm with only 10 rounds in the mag (to save the mag spring).

In the early 70's when they brought females back into the Military Police Trade they were issued the S&W 5 shot Chiefs Special in .38 spl. Male MP's still carried the Browning 9mm.

MP commissioned officers and the Special Investigation Unit (plain clothes unit of the MP trade) were issued the Colt Cobra in .38 spl.

The long arm of both the Air Force Police and later the Military Police was the SMG in 9mm

Not sure what the MP trade is using today for a handgun however, the year that I retired the SMG was replaced by the C7 carbine as opposed to the rifle.

Fighter pilots have been using SIG 225 since at least prior to the Kosovo campaign, maybe even during the first gulf war, but not too sure on that one
 
I believe for a while the Browning 1910 .32 ACP was used as an Officer pistol .. not sure about the Aircrew. Sig 225 is what is used by all MPs now. Some of the Close Protection guys use the Sig 226 and the guys that were in Brussels were using the FN in 5.7
 
I am looking specifically for was aircrews used, my father was a flight engineer and I am looking to purchase sentimental purchase after his passing.

In the '90's some Herc crews were given Inglis Hi-Powers when flying into former Yugoslavia. Fighter pilots got SIGs, Aircraft Security Officers (Meatheads) also got SIGs. There was work done on getting a magnum revolver for CF-18 pilots for bear defence, but there were problems (too big to carry on the person), not sure if they followed through and put it in the seat pack or what.

So for your purposes, I would say the Browning would be the most correct.
