CDP Atts

Put aside some of the minor issues, like the ATT thing, a very small thing, and some of the feelings of the people at the top again a very minor thing and it is a great sport to shoot. For those of you who have shot with me over the last 2 years, I am certain you have all had a good time and we have had some pretty cool course of fires. All shooting sports have had issues, IPSC is a perfect example of major BS at the top, but you know what, the shooters that really want to shoot, over look it and just have fun.

Exactly.

OK.
I talked to David Burke as promised, and queried him on the inclusion of the ATT notation.

The ATT is not a CSSA requirement.

According to him it is a CYA clause.
His reasoning: While the event is being held at Sharon Gun Club, the CDP Match is being run primarily by non-Sharon members. Being the first sanctioned match, and most likely knowing a minimal number competitors, the individuals who are controlling the registration and match execution have added this as a Cover-Your-Ass for the club, and the CDP.

I'll accept that at face value. As for those who won't go because they have to show a piece of paper, that's your choice. While we may not like the horrendous firearms laws, obeying them is not a matter of if it is convenient or not.

I for one know too many "responsible" firearms owners who forget reg certs and their ATT's because it wasn't easily transferred from range bag to range bag. While I don't begrudge them for taking the easy way, It isn't worth it to me to risk getting caught breaking a stupid law when I have so much invested (IMHO).

It is not anyone elses responsibility, or duty to enforce or to ensure you possess a valid ATT, but your own.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why piss people off with something that does absolutely NOTHING.

... but I digress and put all of this crap aside for a great day at the range. There is no doubt in my mind this match will be a good time and fun for all, much like all other matches we've shot. Yes?

Any trigger time is a good time boys. Please be cool. :) No need to be cancelling memberships or nothing like that. Yet. :D

Regards.

... and how is this ATT thingy advertized for all possible members who are not aware of this through this avenue?

Are you going turn people away when they come to shoot from afar and forgot their damn piece of paper?

I think I might make the trip just for the spectacle at registration this time. :D ... and forget my ATT. :runaway: :D

.

There is NO LAW that indicates that I need to show my ATT to ANYONE other than a police officer and then only in specific cases.

There it NO WAY ON THIS PLANET that I would be involved in any group, organization, event, marshmallow roast that stepped over the line.

It is indeed NO SMALL MATTER...............

People need to make their choices on where the line in the sand is. Mine is several feet befor this sort of action.

I heartily concur.

Yeah ... well ... for the record, this doesn't sit well with me either. Though I am a bit more forgiving then some, I too think this is no small matter.

I hope Mr Burke sees the errorr of his ways on this one. I can't imagine any club condoning such a choice.

You know what, everybody WILL have their ATT anyway. No need to ask for that. We ARE responsible firearms owners/operators. :50cal:

Oh and as far as it being a CYA sort of issue.

How exactly can that be?

Where is it written that it is ANYONEs responsibility to have the correct paperwork other than the shooter?

I can and would understand a CYA form in terms of accidents for liability but that does not have a thing to do with ATTs.

I agree that it is something that is not required to be checked in order to run a match. Everyone in attendance should be responsible to have an ATT. But it is not my call. Either way, Since if they want to see proof of BB, CDP, PPC, I won't worry about it too much. It's another peice of paper I already have attached to my reg certs and proof of qualification.

Who knows; they may not even ask for it at the event. It would have been better if they had worded it as a "Reminder to bring all your proper paperwork (ATT & Certs)", instead of a proof requirement.

...to see proof of BB, CDP, PPC, ...

So what's up with that now? Is there an ODPL certification you offer?? How accredited is it if you do. Who qualifies you and what are their qualifications to play Mr rulebook?

Nobody asks me for a driver's licence before I get in my car and wheel it onto the road.

:D What are you guys doing over there? :onCrack:

??? I dunno where your burr under the saddle came from against me, but I'll bite. To shoot a match in ODPL, you need CDP, BB, or PPC certification. So what is your question?

If you forget your driver's licence your are illegally driving however, and IF you get pulled over by the police you get at least a warning or fine. The same doesn't apply if you forget your firearms paperwork. I wouldn't ask you for your ATT if it was my match to run. However it is not.

Burke's gaffe aside I hope it is a good match and that the weather is good for them.

Put aside the fact that they asked that you bring your ATT for the shoot, it is the LAW to carry it with you while transporting restricted to any approved range in the province. My goodness what is the big issue, just bring that damb thing and enjoy it. Why take it so personal, all this BS over a piece of paper you carry anyway?

Because my good man IT IS BULL####!

NOBODY but NOBODY has any need to see my ATT unless you are a COP.

The very idea that a club is WILLING to go along with doing POLICE WORK is not just the thin edge of the wedge it is the WHOLE 2x4.

When clubs start to police their own by order of the CFO I figure we would have to put up a fight to stop it.

However to have "one of our own" come up with all by themselves.

That is just insane!

Here is a great idea, for those of you that are attending, you must have it with you regardless, just tell them there is no need to see it when and/or if you get asked for it, and if the powers to be do not want to let you shoot I would call the CSSA and find out the scoop on this, better yet, send Dave Burke an e-mail and/or call the CSSA now ask either of them yourself that if you do not present it, will you still be allowed to shoot. I have already sent Dave an e-mail with the suggestion to remove it form the invitation flyer.

Mine says Marksman Club on it. Does that mean I only have one for the Marksman Club or can this be used to take my guns to Sharon?

CB, your ATT issued to you through our club allows you to transport your restricted firearms and prohibited handguns to all CFO approved ranges in the province of Ontario.
