Has anyone heard anything about whether or not the CDP Provincial Match will be held at Connaught ranges this weekend. There is no information on David Burke's blog but as late as July 24 he e-mailed some of us that they were finalizing the details. Since then silence.

Here's the info Dave sent me this morning:

Match is on ranges 3 & 4 at Connaught over 2 days with 9 or 10
stages. Round count is approx 200.

CDP rules apply for the most part. Scoring will be different.
Cost $25.00 per day.

Registration is 8 to 9 am Saturday and Sunday for those shooting only 1 day.

Shield, Black Badge, PPC are all eligible to shoot. Others will be
considered on a case by case basis.

I don't find any information regarding this match on the CDP web site. If it's tomorrow, how on earth is anybody not a member of NCRRA going to get an ATT in time?

So how did it go .Was it by invatation only. How do you find out about CDP matches. I shot the match at Sharon last year but have heard nothing since then.

This weekend (Aug 8-9) I participated in what had been advertised by David Burke on his blog and in e-mail as a Canadian Defensive Pistol Provincial Match at Connaught Ranges.

Before I go on, I want to state that anything I say here I said directly to the Match Director and would have said to David Burke if he hadn’t left the match early.

Back to the match. It turned out that this was by no stretch of the imagination a CDP match. The match was organized and run by a group from the OSA and its stated purpose was to practice for the upcoming DCRA National Service Conditions Championship. What if any, association they had with CDP and/or CSSA was never explained.

The match consisted of a number of drills, including one from fifty yards, that were closer in nature to PPC than anything else and four scenarios that utilized some walls and included a target on a moving sled. What was somewhat confusing was that four types of targets were used simultaneously (IPSC Classic and Metric, CDP and IDPA). The scoring was different, consisting of time, and hits on three scoring zones that changed depending on what type of target was being fired on. Other than the scenarios took far too long to complete, the match was somewhat interesting and I have no problem with the rules for that discipline. However, it was not what was advertised i.e. CDP.

I had an issue with the cost of the match which was $50.00. In any other disciple I shoot a $50.00 match fee would probably include a banquet or at least lunch. For this match $50.00 allowed you to shoot, period. No lunch, no water – nothing. However it was my choice to pay and I didn’t ask when I registered if water or lunch was included.

There also appeared to be some issue regarding the use of the range. Information provided prior to the match indicated that the match would held on adjoining Ranges 3 and 4. In fact only Range 3 was utilized and it appeared that the Navy Combat Shooting Team that was practising on another range were required to provide a monitor on our range. What was at issue was never explained.

Finally, I am not impressed by Mr. Burke. He advertised the CDP Provincial Match and as late as last Thursday indicated by e-mail that everything was fine. This was obviously not the case and while he was there for Saturday and for the first part of Sunday morning he never did explain the inconsistency of what he had promoted and what was actually happening. Once bitten, etc. I don’t think that I will be falling for that again.

Well let me be the first to say welcome to IDPA :stirthepot2:

I cannot comment on any CDP issues, having no involvement with CDP.
The event was scheduled on the osacanada.ca website close to six months ago.
The course of fire is the one being used for the pistol component of the DCRA sponsored NSCC (National Service Conditions Championship) which is being held in two weeks. The course of fire - for pistol, sniper and service rifles - can be found on the DCRA website.
A shoot at a DND range can be a problem with an ATT valid for only CFO approved ranges.

The problem is that Mr.Burke was selling the match as the CDP Provincials.

thats great. Why would he leave the match early? If it was this messed up, I would take it as a lesson learned, and not bother going to any more. What a shame, I participated in a NB CDP match and was thinking about attending them. I think IDPA would be the way to go.

I attended Sunday's portion. I missed out on any briefing that was given Saturday, so can't comment on what the match was officially portrayed as. Clearly, it wasn't CDP. The courses of fire were amusing. Rounding times up to the nearest second seemed to be an invitation to multi-way ties for first place on stages. Scoring edge hits on shoot targets only when they cut the line was as expected - scoring hits on penalty targets if the bullet just touched the edge of the cardboard seemed a poor idea (yes, I learned about that inconsistency the hard way). Overall, it was much more like an informal club shoot than an IPSC level 2.

so if it was not a cdp match and it was a build up shoot to the DCRA National Service Conditions Championship and the range master left then who got the $50????

I thought so as well for a moment..........but on second reading it appears to have been suggested to be a "provincial level" match which to my reading appears to be similar to a Level II IPSC match as opposed to a level 1

Either way...........it does not appear to have been handled well.

You maybe talking about an event that took place Sat/Sunday on Range 2. I am unfamiliar with the nomenclature but a good friend was shooting, what I believe were NSCC stages on Range 2 on Sunday. This Range was not the one used by Mr. Burke. I was busy on Range 6 and only had a chance to drop by Sunday to say hello to some folks on Range 2 during the lunch break.

Take Care

Bob

Some of the pages on Mr. Burke's blog don't seem to be that accurate. I wonder how I did at the match I never ran, for the club I don't belong to?
