Centerfire Magazine limits

OK I know that we are allowe up to "10 round magazines" in our ARs

And collectors can acquire (but not import) magazines over 20 rounds...

My question is, is there any form or permit one can apply for to get magazines of full capacity?

I've read some mention of it in the AR picture thread

And have had no luck finding any relevant data other than Collectors

"Licenced gun collectors should be allowed to acquire magazines of any capacity, but further importation of magazines of a capacity over 20 would be prohibited, so that only those over-capacity magazines now in the country would be available for further acquasition by such collectors"

In otherwords if you're a collector you can acquire not import magazines of lets say 30 rounds.

Im curious as to costs etc.

Point me in the right direction anybody? I dont mind calling a few places either

Centerfire semi auto magazines are 5 rounds max.
Pistol mags are 10 rounds max

There is no mechanism to allow the possession or import by an individual of a prohibited device, such as an over capacity mag.

Licensed dealers can import them as prohibs, and convert them according to the guidelines spelled out in the CCC.

Fixed it a bit for you. There are no licensed dealers that can import normal capacity magazines if their intention is to pin them for sale to Civilians in Canada. If the magazines are for sale to civilians, they must be pinned BEFORE they come into Canada. Licensed dealers can only import magazines that are greater than 1) or 2) if they are for sale to Government, Police, Military or those with licenses to manufacture.

What Luke is talking about is the original wording of Bill C-17 the bill that in fact limits magazine capacity. They were also initially going to give provinces the option to opt out of mag limits. None of this happened and instead we have the law as it is today.

This last part is incorrect. Licensed dealers can import Prohibited Devices ONLY to fill government/LE orders for which they have a purchase order and for which an Import Permit (not to be confused with an IIC) has been issued by DFAIT. In some instances the CFO will allow the dealer to import a very small (specified number) of magazines for "inventory"... but they must be accounted for at all times and they can ONLY be supplied to government/LE purchasers (Purchase Order being issued to show supply and end-user).

There is NOTHING in the law that allows any dealer or business or person to "convert" a prohibited device such as a high capacity magazine to a non-prohibited status.

Many BFL's have asked for permission to import high capacity magazines and modify them once they have entered Canada... we have all be told the same thing: There is no provision in the legislation to allow this as a "Prescribed Purpose" and as a result no BFL can show this as a legal activity for any BFL holder.

Call your lawyer. Tell him you want to start a company that provides firearms, under contract, for movie and theatrical production. Tell him you understand that your company must be licensed under the Firearms Act. Your lawyer will take it from there.

Once licensed, you can then solicit business from people who produce television and films and, with contracts in hand, you'll be able to gain official sanction to import and own virtually anything that you - and your clients - could wish for. Fully-automatic firearms? Yup! Sound suppressors? Yup! Full capacity magazines? Yup! Bull-pup stocks? Yup! Ninja throwing stars? Yup! The sky is the limit.

All you need is money.
