Centrefire rifle caliber limitations southern Ontario?

I live in south eastern Ontario, near Kingston. A few years ago a buddy and I got into a similar debate as he held the opinion you could not carry a centerfire rifle south of hwy 401 for any reason. I did not know, but thought I would look into it. So I called the MNR, they said it was not their jurisdiction, call the OPP, so I did, same answer--call the municipality. So I called several municipalities and they all said not their jurisdiction other than "Black Out" areas around certain villages.

Now there is no big game season in this area where you can carry a centerfire rifle, but there are a lot of coyotes. This is primarily a bow hunting and controlled shotgun/muzzle loader area. So, I ask the people here, can I carry my rifle, regardless of caliber, for hunting coyotes south of hwy 401 outside of the normal big game seasons?

Yes. Just check the regs. The ones in question have even been posted in this thread.

So, I am getting my small game license (test this weekend) after holding a RPAL for 2+ years now, with the intent (one of) hunting coyote's as they are a pest to some friends with large properties in the region.

I cannot use a .308 but I can use a shotgun slug, and my shotgun has to be plugged to 3?

I can't take my AR15, and a 10/22 doesn't seem humane to use on a larger animal, I was going to get a M14 but it seems it would be illegal to use?

I think that originally the law was put into play was to keep Full Metal Jacket Military ammo out of the bush.

Well isnt that just another retarded law?.. specially when Ontario is one of the few provinces that allows fmj for all big game.
