anyone out there know whether there is a distributor of Aguila's new Centurion 5mm rimfire ammo in Canada? Perhaps someone has picked some up from the states recently and not been stopped by the american customs on the way back. I would be interested in any info or ammo someone would be interested in disposing of. Thanks

There are no laws that prohibit you from "importing" up to 3500 rounds of live ammuntion into Canada from the US or any other international location. Unfortunately the US has a problem (not a law) regarding export of ammunition, gun powder, brass cases etc, etc... probably would have been better to do your research first.

Well if there are no laws regarding the export of ammunition or components from the USA, why won't the US suppliers send these products to Canada? If there are no laws against this, why would they fear being punished for doing so?

From what I understand, Canadians have certain laws regarding shipping prohibited weapons into Canada. A few American companies have received heavy fines for exporting said prohibited items to Canada, so... rather than learn and understand what can or cannot be sent to Canada or other international locations, businesses in the US have decided not to send any firearm related items at all. Can you blame them? The gun laws in Canada are complicated and in my opinion rediculous at the best of times. Along with Obama threatening the US second amendment, the terrorist attacks and in some people`s opinion the paranoid US attitude, why should these businesses bother with such a small market in Canada? With such harsh penalties for the ever changing firearms laws it doesn't make sense to include Canada in their business plan.

Actually the problem is not Canadian laws, but rather US laws. US laws require that a permit must be obtained before firearms, firearms components, ammunition, or ammunition components can be exported out of the USA. Try going through a Homeland Security checkstop in the USA on your way home to Canada with brass, powder, primers, or bullets in your possession, and you will be made aware of those laws very quickly.

Very well put. However, I live in Canada, so I am only concerned with our laws. The Canadian government allows you to bring (don't quote me on the actual amounts) 3500 rounds of ammunition, 20# of powder and 5000 primers with no limits on brass cases and bullet components. Yes homeland security will not allow you to leave the States with these items but you will not be legally charged for trying to cross the border with them, they will confiscate them from you. This is a chance one has to take if you are willing in order to obtain Canadian legal firearms components in the US.

When you are in the USA, you are subject to US laws regardless of where you live.

They most certainly can charge you with trying to leave the USA with these items, if they choose to. However, in most cases, they will confiscate the items, and put your name in the system which can result in you being denied entry into the USA in the future. If you are lucky enough to be allowed into the USA, but your name is in the system, you can expect to be more carefully scrutinized when you enter the USA, or when you pass through a checkstop in the USA. A second offense will likely result in a long term or permanent ban.

Not only will they confiscate the goods purchased without proper paper work, you will be charged under the "Home Land Security" you will also have your vehicle confiscated and you will likely be a guest of the Feds until they decide what they want to do with you.
There are a few threads on CGN and have read where guys have had very unpleasant experiences with HS.
Nothing wrong with asking or looking for that 5 mm rimfire, its just the manner in which some people may have taken offense to it.
So, who is importing it into Canada??

Wow, thanks for the information. You know, I'm just an average joe who enjoys shooting. I've just acquired a Remington 591 and with it came 4 boxes of the original 38 gr Remington ammo. All I'm really looking for is ammunition to shoot out of this gun at paper targets or gophers for fun. I'm not out to hurt anyone, I'm just like the rest of us, frustrated with these rediculous laws that prevent law abiding gun owners their enjoyment.

Saw 5 boxes of 5mm at the Lloyd Show this weekend. Wasn't paying all that much attention, but the price stuck.

It was $75 a box.

Rebarreling to 22Mag, or 17HMR looks like a bargain at those prices.

Cheers

Look around on the internet there was a company doing a center fire convertion for these .

James Calhoon sells a set of plans on his site. About 20 dollars for the info.

The conversion calls for threading the front of the action, as well as building a new front section of the bolt from scratch, to get a center fire firing pin.

Supposedly these actions with the six(?) rear locking lugs, were designed to proof out to withstand 60K psi, and make a fine .17 Ackley Hornet.

The centerfire conversion is called the 5mm Craig. You can look into it from Eagle Arms in Washington state.

With regards to the Centurion ammunition, have you checked with Aguila to see if they have shipped to any dealers in Canada? I know Europe orders a bunch, so I'd be surprised if none made it to Canada.

Eric
