Cerakote durability on polymer frames?

I have an HK45c on its way to me but the frame is tan which is not really my jam. I would like to have it cerakoted black but I am concerned about the durability of cerakote on a polymer frame. Does it chip/ wear down easily, especially with a lot of holster use? I don't want to end up with a black frame with a bunch of tan spots on it after 200 draws. Any thoughts? What are your experiences with cerakote on polymer? Is there a better produce / option?

If the "prep" & application are done right it should be quite durable, however "holster wear" can vary. I would choose the elite series.

It's a good question, but I think mildot is on the money - It's all about the prep and process. I'd ask Black Box, they probably have something useful to say.

You could also switch to using a weaponlight 100% of the time.

I've always seen holster wear as a mark of pride, personally. But yeah, it might look a bit goofy with tan spots showing through.

you could try rit dye the frame black. if you do please post your DYI process

if you cerakote on top of that then your double covered.

but if its a gun you plan on using hard then just run it

I am trying to track down a Safariland 6K series holster to lessen the wear as it is the lined series. I too take pride in some well earned holster wear but I don't want my pistol to look like it has some sh!t stains on it after a few hundred draw strokes.

Next question. Which is the best black?

I've done an 870 in the Blackout cerakote, it's a "true" black, after it was cured, I tried to scratch it with a key? & it didn't leave any mark.

Personally, I'm skeptical about lined holsters. There's an argument that the lining will trap and hold dirt, and can't be cleaned as easily. I guess it might keep a clean gun in a clean environment from showing wear longer than an unlined version of the same. But if you're going to be in a dirty environment, I think a well-fitted kydex holster with good coverage is the way to go. My two cents...

In my experience I have not had this issues with duty holsters, I do find, however that prolonged use can rough up the suede and I have seen it begin to peel on one holster. I have transitioned most of my safariland holsters from the 6K series to the 7kseries (not lined) just due to the cost. I am unlikely to add a different brand kydex holster to the mix as I am already well set up into the Safariland system but I may have to go that route as finding ANY holster for the HK45c has been a challenge.

I’ve never tried it but Rit dye apparently works very well. Guys were making “banana mags” a few years ago by dying FDE Pmags with yellow Rit dye.
