CF and alternate optics.

Then you get guys who say the issued eyewear are better because they're "ballistics" and that Oakleys arent...

I can tell you first hand Oakleys ARE ballistic rating, reason being you can't wear them is because they were not issued. Blast goes off and damages your face and you are wearing Oakleys you will not be covered by DND insurance blah blah blah (so I was told several times)

We have a hard enough time fighting with Veterans Affairs Canada for claims that are legit and within the "rules" good luck getting anything from their lawyers for non-issued kit.

DVA will find a way to screw you anyways. And like i said thats what I was told by my chain for the reason for not being allowed to wear them outside the wire.

Ya if you got a C8 9/10 you will get a EOtech to go along with it, as for the ACOG's they were allowed on our tour if you purchased your own. Some guys had the brand new Elcan Specters. But once the MP's seen them on our rifles they tried to make us take them off. That didn't work out for the MP's at all.

I have an Eotech on my C8 right now, and a rig, we were told we can wear anything we wanted to, POMLT, OMLT, FP, BG. Anyone, a CANLANGEN came out stating about 10 companies that were approved for use.

But not all C8's got EOtechs. They decide if you need it first. For example, a Col who never leaves his desk, will use the Elcan and not the Eotech.

Anyone who bought an Trijjicon could use it if they wanted to.

As for VAC not covering someone because they wore Oakleys, good luck. We were told the same thing too. But, they would lose, imagine the media getting a hold of somthing like that? I can just see the head lines, Canadian Soilder loses eyesight in Afgh. VAC refuses pension. Imagine the s#$T storm for DND!!!!!!

They actually get called out in the media alot. They are seriously worse then an insurance company, they even say that somewhere on their website that they used to treat claims like insurance claims. But not any more. BS!

I have so many stories from guys with legit injuries who get denied all the time, they just get told your young and fit it could potential heal itself in time!

I just got told that myself!

Sorry to steal the thread!!!!

Why would the MPs care about what scope you have on your rifles. That doesnt make any sense at all.

They are seriously worse then an insurance company...

VAC, just like WCB is just like any insurance company; everything revolves around the almighty $

Actually...WCB IS much better than VAC, I was in for an MRI a week to the day of my job site injury.

I've been dealing with VAC since 2000, and the hoops I've had to jump through is unbelievable.

I posed the question to them less than a month ago as I'm having some serious issues with an injury, as I'm already losing hours at my job for therapy what would be the case if I simply could NOT work due to it?

The response was "...they would provide UP TO 75% of what I made when I LEFT the military..."

...that was almost 5 yrs ago...

...I make almost double now at my current job...

How exactly is that even remotely fair?!

I'm just damned blessed that my current employer has a soft spot for those who served.

Apologies for the thread hijack

They had nothing better to do besides try to see if we had stolen them or purchased stolen ACOG's. Tim Horton's had a big line up that day!

What roto was this?

Still, I would think the only one who would care would be an RSM who hates non-issued kit.

Apparently stolen optics are some kind of problem over there?

X2 on both points. I dont see this happening unless there was problem with stolen optics and the order came from higher up.

Not that I am aware of, I know everyone in my crew that had non-issued optics purchased them before leaving Canada.

who were the lucky guys who got issued specters?

They actually bought them, they had a contact for Elcan who gave them a big big discount. They bought them for only $700 ish

They are pretty decent sights alot better then the C79. But on that note even though I was issued an Eotech I quickly went back to the Elcan. It was what I was used to and the magnification helps for ID purposes.

I think he's asking who got issued them if there was a problem with them being stolen. Some one had to have them for some one to steal them from.

Either way the specter is not in the CF system for general issue. The problem was with the ACOG's. Rumours circulated that their was stolen ones for sale from the marines, but I never seen them.

Some of the civillian contractors in country could get them legit from Trijicon at a cheaper rate(so im told) but they were hard to come by. You can pretty much buy anything there just needed to know who to talk to.
Almost had me a motorcycle to ride around camp in!

I kid you not, i had seen at one point someone with to much money have a night vision scope and they never left camp (not a secret squirrel)

And for the boys and girls currently serving over their enjoy the pooh pond!

The two biggest problems with non issue optics is most guys buy crap and if something breaks who will have the parts to fix it??????????????. So stick with your C79 or EOTECH 552.
