CF C7 and C8 steel magazines

"Disposable plastic mags"......just like...."The Russians can load and fire our FN ammo in their guns but we can't fire their AK ammo in our FN's".

I should have kept a journal of all the BS I heard and made a small comedy book to sell to all the former CF guys, would have been a hit!

I was told the same thing in basic (by an officer, no less) and got a lot of grief from the drill instructor because I was s######ing - only so I didn't burst out laughing.

I suppose it could work IF the gun the Russian was using was a Mosin-Nagant.......I wouldn't want to try it though.

The edible buttons from our shirts is a pretty good story too :p

I guess the same things are told in each and every army.

In finnish army, some instructors still believes that "a branch will deflect a 5.56x45 bullet so bad that you lose any chance of hitting your target"

In french army, the 5.56x45 is "small but so nasty that if you get hit in the leg, the bullet will exit around your neck"

We should compile an international best of

My favourite was the edible buttons on winter parkas

Yet, there is some truth to this legend. In the early 50's Canada had manufactured a clothing system for the Arctic, IIRC the XM series which had these buttons. However, it never made it past the development phase as they found the buttons to be to fragile or easily deformed. Hence, the legend was born.

We were issued beef tallow candles at one time though, but so were a lot of other countries.
