hi all i am with the 1st battalion PPCLI myself and another soldier and good friend from my battaion would like to get on with trying for the CF shooting team and how we go about it, it apears hard to get a answer as we are constantly going to or training for afghanastan, i am deploying this fall. but would realy like to try out once i get back.

on another note my friend and i also shoot when we can at the Edmonton Swiss rifle club which has a 300 meter prone iron site unsuported fullbore k-31/sig pe90 dicipline aswell as a 50m prone rimfire unsuported match, this club is sending a team to switzerlan in 2010 i was wondering how i can get the CF to either ok it or possibly even in part fund some of it any cf members know where i should go from here on either the CF shooting team and or the swiss rifle match in Switzerland for 2010

Your only option Neil is to get thyself to CFSAC in september,shoot well(place in the top 20 in the country) and be availiable to go to Bisley the following year in July.There is a CF CISM 300m UIT team apparently but it looks like they are a closed bunch that don't seem to like new blood.

Neil

First on the CF Team you have hook up with your unit/area rifle team and find out where and when they are holding there try out's. Make the team and carry on with what Longshot stated.

Second on being able to go to the match in 2010.
Whip out a memo to your CC (DCO - he holds the unit money) requesting to attend the match and any support that the unit can provide IE funding. As well fill out a CF 50-3 (see clerks) and a CGSO 1-92A (this one my be base unique). Also go over to PSP and find out there way to submit for other funding. There sports adviserite sits twice a year to allot funds. So if the match is in the summer your request has to be in before Dec/Jan.

To reiterate on what BMW already covered...

Go through your CoC regarding your interest. Since you are on 3-09, however, you can pretty much forget about anything for this fiscal year.

Look to get involved in the unit and/or area shoot teams when you get back.

Through your CoC, you'll find out whether or not this will be an approved activity. As for money wise, there is money at Level 2 and Level 3 usually budgeted already for shoot teams for LFWA. Do not go swing directly towards NPF through PSP.

I'm a Patrica myself and with our op tempo....good luck...lol. Seriously, start with your CoC after you are back.....remember your memoradum writting class in basic? Write one justifying your reasons that you want to to this....word it up big time and explain how it will allow you to become more profiecient in your profession and how you will gain more knowledge/experiance that can be passed on to others....and the PPCLI repersentation thing.....can't go wrong there.

I was on the 1 CMBG team in '99....was a good experiance, wish I could go do it again.

To expand on the good Sgt's emphasis of the need to properly address the CoC in mil writing, consult the CDA Writing Aide guide, which you may find on the DIN.
 
thanks alot all i will take your advise, i dont for see doing anything as far as a cf shooting team for this year goes but i will try for the summer 2010 swiss shoot in switzerland and start with a cxhain of comand memo in regards to this and you can bet once i am back from 3-09 i will be doing everything i can to get on the team

Get in touch with diamondcutter13 on Gunnutz - he's in 3 VP and Pres of the Edmonton Garrison Shooting Club. We're likely holding a meeting 19 July so he can get the balls rolling.

Hey, hope to see you out for some Garrison shoots prior to you shipping out. I can answer all your questions about getting on with CFSAC etc when you get back but like the others have said, if you are on 3-09 it's not going to happen this year.

We'll also help you out with all the paperwork to get sponsorship through PSP and 1VP if possible.

The PSP is a good suggestion. Typically that stands for People Screwing People, but they do have lots of opportunity funding. Going to a match might turn their cranks.

As a serving line doggie, your time is controlled by forces that are often very obscure. One Bn will get its orders soon enough; the others will get raped for spare bodies; some guys go, some don't. If your CoC likes the idea of being down a man, even if it is for a good cause.

From my experience, and not in a combat arms unit, shooting is something every soldier has to do. Shooting in a competition is not a situation they like encouraging. Too much risk of being outshot at annual qualifications, maybe? But golf is good. There's a civilized sport that certain influential members of the unit don't mind encouraging.
 
Stay safe over there. My bud HUNTSMAN is headed there this fall, too. You might meet him - especially if your have weapons issues (he's a weapons tech).
 
Glad as heck that you folks are encouraging jcbruno in the right direction despite all the hoops and hurdles to jump through for some trigger time.

Too bad that marksmanship ain't "Round Ball Sports" that seem to get all the Bn Support including funding. :rolleyes:

I always found it interesting that the Bn has a hard time or won't support a solider (or soliders) who wants to improve shooting ability (a basic solider skill) on their own time/army time with a bit of funding assistance but have no problem with hockey or other sports.

You would think that an Inf BN comander would want a kick ass rifle team and/or a Bn full of competative shooters over a bunch of puck fags....

Ditto. No enemy soldier was ever killed by a volleyball, but the officers love to play it.

And there's the range bookings, choosing guys who are good shots and who are available, guys who aren't being posted or going on course, then there's indenting for ammo, booking the cube vans, identifying (good) coaches and not just HQ wallahs grinding out their time before pension. Then there's the challenge of actually getting a team that functions as a team, and isn't just a bunch of guys pulled off of whatever and set aside from normal regimental duties. Ask any line NCO; they hate the biathlon team/hockey team/soccer team for all those reasons.
 
thanks again guys at this time i am waiting on a letter from the swiss rifle club on the 2010 swiss shoot in switzerland will atache in a memo to the bn sports rep and musketry officer and i believe i then have to see the psp for funding if possible thanks again guys for all your help
