I heard that the CF has concluded its trials for a replacement for that old stalwart of a service pistol the venerable Browning HiPower . I was wondering what pistols were tested I know the Glock , Berretta , Walther and FN were tested .

We'll end up with the Sig. It'll have to be exempt from the Colt Can build requirement, but that should be easier to explain given who owns Colt Can. Seriously I'm surprised they haven't run the P10 through - it's pretty much the fast way to go. Test the P10, it passes Colt Can gets the go ahead from head office, they're built and delivered. We get new pistols, CZ gets to brag to the uniformed international market about being the official sidearm of the CF. Spin the sale over to the RCMP to add numbers to the order and more ad copy.

Why wouldn't they go with Glock. Tons of spare parts plus its as close to idiot proof you are going to get with a handgun. Point the dangerous end at something and it goes click bang every time.

Pretty sure SIG has a longer life cycle than Glock does. I remember that being a point brought up with our pistol testing. Glock is 'easier' but comes down to lifetime not cost per initial gun.

I'm pretty sure Glock already told the CAF to go #### themselves. All the hoops Glock would have had to jump through to sell us their pistols, it wasn't worth it to them for such a relatively small market.

My money is on the Sig 320 (M17). The CAF already uses 226's and 225's, and the American's just adopted it after running a trial themselves.

Sigh. The Dutch and the British, off the top of my head, already issue Glocks. But that is not how procurement works in Canada.

Now let see who wins the next sniper rifle contract... After multiples challenges and a real gong show. Everything is stopped now.

Oh yea... The same is happening for a rifle too.

Judging by the High Power, they will have to last 75 + years.

Where did you hear the tests were concluded? I've been trying to follow the progress of the program and I haven't even heard that they've moved past the legal challenges to the original technical requirements.

I'm just genuinely curious where you found your info as I'm always looking for updates.

Cheers

They will land on p320 just like in the states. Unfortunately, if they got it wrong (and I have reason to believe they did) so will we. Hopefully the benefits of homogenous, NATO firearms outweigh the selection failures.

I think Rampart ( the glock distributor ) complained about the last RFP or RFB because the interchangeable frame requirement, so did they go back and make changes?

The factory themselves ( SIG Glock, what not ) don't really care about the CF, 20,000 is nothing for the factories but it be a nice chunk of revenue for the CDN distributors like Rampart and MDC. The CDN distributors probably care way more about it , and I doubt the factories themselves really care one way or the other for the 20K pistol over so many years. This is really a distributor level effort, not factory level effort like the US contract.

I don't think CZ thru colt canada really care either. Probably if they want to buy it fine, it they don't it is no big deal either.

At this point, just get whatever. All the plastic pistols are pretty much the same.

I’m betting the decision will be mostly based cost, parts procurement, and manufacturer support than anything else.

We’re in a golden age for polymer 9mm pistols and they can’t go wrong with just about any major manufacturer.
