CF small arms trial completed

Its Canada.. So they're going to pick equipment no other countries uses. And in the end whatever is the cheapest.

You're right about the "no other countries use" but lowest cost usually isn't a factor. To sell to the military you need to include enough Liberal owned, Quebec based subcontractors, who can complete the order and then go out of business quietly without providing any inventory of spare parts.

I hadn't seen an announcement on the trial conclusion. I think the 320 will be chosen, given Sig's history with the CAF and that the US chose it. No matter what is selected, folks will grumble, but in the end it will do it's job.

The 320 will be the winner. It is a forgone conclusion. I wonder what we will do to them to Canadianize them? We don't buy factory spec afterall. They will cost us 4000$ apiece by the time we finish procurement I bet.

Wanna bet they laser engrave a stupid looking Maple Leaf on right side of the slide by the muzzle?

No wait, thats been done already.

The funniest thing will be that it took the DND 100 years to write the RFB but it will take 10 days for SIG USAto fill the 20,000 pistol order, and the other 15 to 25 days to ship and clear customs.

And then another 100 years for the DND to actually write the menu, publish it and distribute it.

Did some quick estimate it will take 277 working days for someone working 6 hours a day ,that is already sitting down, to open the box, check the serial number against the box/shipping doc and the detail manifesto from SIG.

That is, it will take longer for the DND to just check and enter the serial number than it takes for SIG to make all these pistols on average.

Where did you hear the tests were concluded? I've been trying to follow the progress of the program and I haven't even heard that they've moved past the legal challenges to the original technical requirements.

I'm just genuinely curious where you found your info as I'm always looking for updates.

Cheers

My guess is "a friend of a friend whose dad was in the Air Force in the '80s."

I heard that the CF has concluded its trials for a replacement for that old stalwart of a service pistol the venerable Browning HiPower . I was wondering what pistols were tested I know the Glock , Berretta , Walther and FN were tested .

Would be curious where you heard that from.

The tender for pistols is out but is stalled due to a challenge from one supplier who is claiming (rightly in my opinion) that the criteria is too restrictive and unfairly excludes pistols that should be considered.

That challenge is ongoing and the tender cant properly proceed until its resolved.

Just get the kit to the boys so they have the tools for the job. Incompetence at its best. Also pick another line-up of officers with shady pasts so they can keep rotating them through the chief-of-defence staff smear campaign

They don't all have shady pasts. Vance was a #### bag, maybe the Navy guy as well, maybe.
The rest are victims of a smear campaign, no doubt to replace all Sr officers with women or just disband the CAF.

But, back on topic. I retired in 2010, I'm waiting for a message that my mint IHP needs to be turned over to the CAF to make up for a shortage due to no modern mnfr being capable of fulfilling the unique operational requirements of the CAF.

No matter who is picked it can be almost a sure thing that the tests it was subjected to had very little to do with it being chosen. It's who lobbies the best that will win. Who sends the best hookers and blow or who has compromising pictures of someone with hookers and blow.

Harry, Some talk trough their ass and know nothing how procurement work.
I’s not the first nonsense post and won’t be the last.

I was part of procurement for new zero turns for Roads and Grounds and what we chose, wasn't what they chose. And we were the ones fixing them and knowing how rough the operators were. They chose the one with the more HP but the thinnest mowing deck. Previous we were getting welders, to weld plates on the front of the deck, when they were hopping curbs and smashing them to pieces.

It's all about whatever is cheapest initially..
